The psuedo-message (and the log) should have the remote first, last and next counters. Any chance you could dig them out? The first and last counters are the first article no./last article no. the upstream server reported when it changed to the group. The next counter is the counter Noffle stored at the end of the previous fetch as being the article number of the next article to fetch.
