p.s. Might I also suggest that, since the POD would end up in the .pl file
where we expect it to be obvious and useful, we might wish to move  the CVS
log sections (# $Log: $...) to the *end* of the files?

The $Id: $ can (and probably should) remain up top for those who care.

I'll third the motion...  and strongly advocate that POD is the way to go,
for all the obvious reasons.
