Well, it seems that all the attention we've received today means that Matt Wright has finally noticed us. I've just got an email from him. He seems pretty ok about the concept of nms. He says: "I admire the time you guys have taken to create drop-in replacements for my code" and "I can be a good sport and take the nms jab" and even "I wrote that code years ago when I didn't know how to program" Which is all very positive. On the other hand, he's mightily upset that we're still distributing README files that are heavily based on his originals. And, of course, he has every right to be upset by that. We _are_ violating his copyright. Now, I was planning to rewrite all the docs at some point. But you know how it is. Documentation isn't exactly the most exciting job in the world. But now it all beoomes a but more urgent. We really need to remove all of Matt's documentation over this coming weekend. I don't think I can do it all myself so I need some help. I've done the README in countdown, so you've got an example to work from (note that's in CVS - not been released yet). I'll do all the smaller scripts (ffa, rand_image, rand_link, rand_text, ssi_rand_image, textclock and textcounter). If others could volunteer to take on formmail, guestbook, search and wwwboard I'd be grateful. I stress that this weekend that aim is simply to replace Matt's docs with our own. It would be great if it was _better_ than Matt's, but at the moment I'll settle for "different". We'll improve it later. Please help. Dave... -- Drugs are just bad m'kay |
