A more correct test would be: [Test] public void VerifyThatFinalizeIsNotOverriddenInMockSubClass() { DisposableThingy thingy = CreateDisposableThingyMock(); MethodInfo finalizer = thingy.GetType().GetMethod("Finalize", BindingFlags.DeclaredOnly | BindingFlags.Instance | BindingFlags.Public | BindingFlags.NonPublic); AssertNull(finalizer); } (Which means you can lose the static DestructorCallCount field).
