Actually, it was Firefox.  Norton overrides the window.open method.  
Rather than doing something inside the browser, Norton filters the HTML, 
inserting its own methods.  It's a very primitive approach, but it has 
more powerful customization than Firefox or even the Adblock extension 
(meaning I could fix it at my end if necessary).

But no matter.  The other site design works just fine.
