I have a small hangup to do with not being able to GET sound
running on my FreeBSD machine too. Not that that should
affect whether or not I can COMPILE, mind you. Just...it
should work, but doesn't.

Finally have sound working on FreeBSD - I don't know what I did, but the nighthawk-2.2 works wonderfully - I have yet to compile it, must find out how Dion fixed it.

Hurrah! Finally worked out what was wrong in BSD. This fix (in CVS) will probably work in ALL versions of BSD.
Seems the entry has a different name in Linux than in BSD. Now I'm trying to find the equivalent in Solaris.

Actually, I suspect a different change might be needed - I found a change from the FreeBSD patches that could probably be used just as effectively. I'll put that into the code, and I can therefore remove a #ifdef which isn't needed.
