I do intend on releasing NICOLE 0.1.8 to the wild in the next few days..

There is nothing really there that is worth while for people to upgrade, as
there are only cosmetic changes, and a few minor bug fixes. (There are a few
times where NICOLE crashes undersome rare and extreme conditions). Probably your
best bet is to check after the weekend.

A few people seem to believe that I have stopped working on NICOLE and have
moved on to other projects. This is not the case. NICOLE is still my primary
project, I just have been quite busy the past few months (moving house, family
commitments, etc). The Ummon project (which was going to use parts of NICOLE)
seems to be now vapourware, and I was really only assisting in the project (with
regards to NICOLE)..

What really spurs me on in developing NICOLE is the interest that she has
generated. Thanks guys! :)

I am also going to have a re-think of NICOLE over the next month or 2, as I have
a few new ideas to try out. This newer version of NICOLE will be appearing in
the 0.2.x versions. The next version of NICOLE will have some word associations
built in to it. I don't want to hard code any word associations (that goes
against the principle of NICOLE - nothing hard coded, everything learnt from
scratch). I'm still researching and trying a few methods.

As for an online version of NICOLE, yes there is only one online, and to be
honest, I'm not too happy with the way that it has turned out. Sure the
vocabulary is large, but it is a little too crass for my liking. (Don't get me
wrong.. I don't have an issue with profanity, I just think its a little
excessive in NICOLE's case). When I develop the 0.2.x stream of NICOLE, I will
have to re-think how the online version will work.

Feel free to create your own online version of NICOLE. You need to have a linux
box running MySQL with NICOLE already setup (download NICOLE 0.1.7) and get it
running first. Once you have that running, then you need to setup nicole-php.
Modify the php code to suit your own setup.

Keep in mind that the php version of NICOLE ain't pretty, I knocked it up over a
weekend to satisfy Windoze users who couldn't run NICOLE on their system *grin*.
I suspect there is a bug lurking in the somewhere.

You need a linux box with apache and php installed, which I will leave as an
excerise for you to setup and configure. :)

Anyway, I'll post up more information as it happens. (bout time I got moving on
this list again )

Once again, thanks for your interest in NICOLE. It's nice to see her continue to
grow. :)

Hi

Just wondering how things are progressing to 0.18 :-) I've gotten a few
people interested in it, and have them merrily talking away to NICOLE,
so hopefully I might be able to rack up some more conversations.

Is there a version of the online chat that I can incorporate into my
site? I appreciate that there's already one site with it on, but I'd be
interested in having a "mirror" of it, with a different learning curve.
I think it would try and help get a different language weighting going.
