Layout doesn't work very well on HiDPI screens. I'm on a razorblade 14' running Ubuntu 15.10 GNOME. Screen resolution is 3200x1800 with HiDPI Window Scaling set to 2x from TweakTool.

Two main problems jump out:

  • Most of the text and layout is sized correctly, except for the text of the notes themselves. They are shown in their native size (e.g. 9 pt), instead of scaled by the HiDPI scale factor.

  • The notebook list text is scaled up nicely and legible, however it is cropped on the right, even though there is plenty of room, as seen in the attached screengrab.

  • the note toolbar icons are also not scaled up, but this isn't as much of a deal breaker as the above.

I have absolutely no idea how I could fix this since I don't have the hardware to test anything.

The next version will be compiled against Qt5, which I'm told can handle HDMI better. I'm not sure when it will be released (there are still a few bugs) but when it is please try it to see if it helps.

Alternatively, if you have the ability to build it yourself the code is on http://github.com/baumgarr/nixnote2.

The latest beta has been uploaded. It includes a Qt5 build to see if it helps with the issue. If it doesn't let me know and I can re-open the ticket, but I don't think there is much I can do without the ability to test it. Sorry.

I'm having a similar issue in July 2018 using NixNote 2.02 on Ubuntu 18.04. When using a high resolution external display, NixNote renders text size quite differently to other common software including system components such as menus and dialog boxes, Firefox and LibreOffice. My screen resolution is 4096x2160 with Display Scale set to 2x (200%).

In the attached screenshot you, can see the incongruity between the system settings dialog (left) and NixNote (right).

The problem can be tested to some degree on any Ubuntu system by observing how Display Scale settings other than 1x affect Nixnote compared to other software. I know that Ubuntu has struggled to introduce high quality scaling for high resolution screens (eg. fractional scaling currently causes loss of resolution), so the two issues may be related.

PS. I get huge value from Nixnote! Thank you, Randy.
