Hello, We are currently testing with looper to split traps and so on to different locations. Through a complicated schema with looper, ucd-snmp and syslog we create an output in syslog format that contains (correctly) enriched traps from 4000 switches from different vendors. However, this leaves us with an anormous amount of syslog, while most network managers, such as hp-openview, do not show anything that is syslog. Thus we are looking for a solution that can show to multiple users at the same time, over tcp/ip or on the same unix machine, what traps are coming in and so on. It is crucial that we can filter things out (for instance all line-up/down messages from switches where user-computers are connected.) Furthermore it would be important to have a realitme view of what is coming in (but filtered) and also to make lists of what came in on a specific day or from a specific machine. I have been trying to script such things with bash scripts under hp-unix but the script tools just are not cut out for multi-user access to text files. In the end you have to use tail, and with 5 users this gives problems. So I was thinking of putting this all in a my-sql database, but then saw that network manager might be able to do just this. But from the www pages I do not understand what the status is from the project. If I understand right, I could use syslog to output to a machine with looper that ctches syslog, and then oputs it out into networkmanager? And thus mysql? But are there database designs to do this with syslog? Or would I have to do this myself (we have designs for similar things, but not this. I also do not know if it is possible to then export from mysql to MS-sql? And the other way around? We have all our configuraton stuff in an sql database. Anyway, just asking wildly to see if this project could mean something for us. greetings hc Theories come and go, the frog stays [F.
