The file doesn't normally contain anything - you write to it, netsaint reads from it, the file is then empty again. An "example" of the format to write a command in would be different depending on the command you want to issue. The list of available commands, along with their syntax, is available in the netsaint documentation, here: http://www.netsaint.org/docs/0_0_7/extcommands.html You may also be interested in some of the stuff in the contrib directories of netsaint and the plugins (they each have a contrib dir). i'd like to have an example of the external commands file (such as :

Hi all, I'm having some problems with check_snmp.. here is the output: # ./check_snmp -H host -C communityid -o .1.3.6.1.4.1.2021.10.1.5.1,.1.3.6.1.4.1.2021.10.1.5.2,.1.3.6.1.4.1.2021.10.1 .5.3 -w :250,:250,:250 -c :500,:500,:500 check_snmp in realloc(): warning: chunk is already free failed malloc in strscat If I run the command without the -w and -c, I get: SNMP WARNING - 0 0 Any idea what's causing it / is there a work around? So in theory the code is in the case statements for 'w' and 'c', but theres no realloc or strscat in those statements... Whats up?:) Thanks Gary |

I send my script, with the exits
# pwd
/usr/local/netsaint
# more check_notes.sh
#!/bin/ksh
data=3D`cat /usr/local/netsaint/proc_notes.txt`
FLAG=3D'OK'
for i in $data
do
PROC=3D`ps -ef | grep $data| wc -l`
if [ $PROC =3D 0 ]
then
FLAG=3D'Critical'
break
fi
done
echo $FLAG
So I have 2 posible exits from it, "OK" and "Critical"
Thank you very much

Everything looks good except for the exit state for the check_notes
plugin.
When the check_notes plugin terminates with a Critical, what is the exi=
t
code being used? If you are using just "exit" that implies "exit 0"
which is OK. You need to exit with "exit 2" for a critical status.

Everything looks good except for the exit state for the check_notes=20 plugin. When the check_notes plugin terminates with a Critical, what is the exit=20 code being used? If you are using just "exit" that implies "exit 0"=20 which is OK. You need to exit with "exit 2" for a critical status. -sg On Wed, 4 Sep 2002, Edgard Dap=E1s wrote: >=20 > I write my pluging check_notes: >=20 > 1- I declare it on the nrpe.cfg (client machine) > # grep check_notes nrpe.cfg > command[check_notes]=3D/usr/local/netsaint/check_notes.sh >=20 > 2- I declare the plugin in netsaint machine, file host.cfg >=20 > # grep check_notes hosts.cfg >=20 > service[dsl102]=3DNOTES;0;24x7;1;2;1;webpin;120;24x7;1;1;0;;check_nrpe!= check_notes >=20 >=20 > 3- when I run the command from the prompt I get the following responce >=20 > When the notes is down: > # /opt/sfw/lib/netsaint/plugins/check_nrpe 10.74.72.43 -c > check_notes > Critical >=20 > When the notes is UP > # /opt/sfw/lib/netsaint/plugins/check_nrpe 10.74.72.43 -c > check_notes > OK >=20 > 4- In the status.log, I have the followin message, when the service is = UP >=20 > [1031166917] SERVICE;dsl102;NOTES;OK;1/1;HARD;1031166845;1031166965;ACT= IVE;1;1;1;1031129137;0;OK;69196;0;0;400;0;0;1;0;0;1;0;0.00;0; > OK >=20 > when the service is down, i have the folowing message >=20 > [1031166917] SERVICE;dsl102;NOTES;OK;1/1;HARD;1031166845;1031166965;ACT= IVE;1;1;1;1031129137;0;OK;69196;0;0;400;0;0;1;0;0;1;0;0.00;0; > Critical >=20 > But, only status information change, the current status only change wh= en the plugin can't be execute. >=20 > Should I declare my plugin like a new command in the COMMAND CONFIGURAT= ION section in the hosts.cfg >=20 > Thanks >=20 >=20 >=20 >=20 >=20 >=20 >=20 >=20 > Subhendu Ghosh <sg...@sg...>@lists.sourceforge.net con fecha > 04/09/2002 15:58:32 >=20 > Enviado por: net...@li... >=20 >=20 > Destinatarios: net...@li... > CC: > Asunto: Re: [Netsaintplug-help] Writing a new plugin >=20 >=20 > On Wed, 4 Sep 2002, Edgard Dap=E1s wrote: >=20 > > > > Just one question > > > > I write a plugin, do I have to declare it in the hosts.cfg or in > > command.cfg? > > > > Even if I want to execute it in a remote machine? > > > > Could you send me an example, please > > > > Because, I have problem with the service status > > > > Thanks > > >=20 > Take a look at the plugin developers guidelines on the nagiosplug > homepage. >=20 > If you are going to execute it on a remote system, are you using NRPE a= s a > conduit between the monitoring host and the target? I write my pluging check_notes:
1- I declare it on the nrpe.cfg (client machine)
# grep check_notes nrpe.cfg
command[check_notes]=3D/usr/local/netsaint/check_notes.sh
2- I declare the plugin in netsaint machine, file host.cfg
# grep check_notes hosts.cfg
service[dsl102]=3DNOTES;0;24x7;1;2;1;webpin;120;24x7;1;1;0;;check_nrpe!=
check_notes
3- when I run the command from the prompt I get the following responce
When the notes is down:
# /opt/sfw/lib/netsaint/plugins/check_nrpe 10.74.72.43 -c
check_notes
Critical
When the notes is UP
# /opt/sfw/lib/netsaint/plugins/check_nrpe 10.74.72.43 -c
check_notes
OK
4- In the status.log, I have the followin message, when the service is =
UP
[1031166917] SERVICE;dsl102;NOTES;OK;1/1;HARD;1031166845;1031166965;ACT=
IVE;1;1;1;1031129137;0;OK;69196;0;0;400;0;0;1;0;0;1;0;0.00;0;
OK
when the service is down, i have the folowing message
[1031166917] SERVICE;dsl102;NOTES;OK;1/1;HARD;1031166845;1031166965;ACT=
IVE;1;1;1;1031129137;0;OK;69196;0;0;400;0;0;1;0;0;1;0;0.00;0;
Critical
But, only status information change, the current status only change wh=
en the plugin can't be execute.
Should I declare my plugin like a new command in the COMMAND CONFIGURAT=
ION section in the hosts.cfg

Take a look at the plugin developers guidelines on the nagiosplug
homepage.
If you are going to execute it on a remote system, are you using NRPE a=
s a
conduit between the monitoring host and the target? If so, you need an=
entry for the plugin and all its parameters in nrpe.cfg.
On the netsaint side, you need an entry for check_nrpe in commands.cfg
(should be there already) and an entry in hosts.cfg for a service check=
using check_nrpe with arg=3Dplugin name defined in nrpe.cfg
Hope this helps.

Hi, I want to check for a string of text in a html page, if the string exists I want to make netsaint send an alert email. The current command im using: service[www.something.com]=check_for_error1;0;24x7;10;60;4;contactgroup1;60;24x7;1;1;1;;check_http!service[www.something.com$-I www.something.com -p 80 -w 5 -c 10 -f follow -s temporarily unavailable This is the opposite to what I want, it raises an alert when this DOESN'T exist, but I want to send an alert when this DOES exist in the html file. Can anyone help? _________________________________________________________________ Send and receive Hotmail on your mobile device: http://mobile.msn.com |
