    OSN - 2006-06-04

Thank you all for your interest and for coming- sorry for the delay, in posting. I was going to set up a bbs for us but I decided against it (I am out of disk space) Not to worry though we should have a dedicated box within the next week or so.

    So on to the project:
Take a look at the stuff gliffy.com is doing -you can use a bunk email address joe@joe.com w/ whatever for a password will work for registration

The point is that is almost exactly where I envision this project going-with a few differences:

    1) it will not just be hosted on netpastebin.com-people will be able to download the source and compile it themselves for use on there own servers

    2) people won't have to register

    3) it will not be done in actionscript or use macromedia- I think AJAX is the way to go with this.

    Skills & availability

Some of you I have talked with have indicated skills that would compliment one another, so lets try to keep an open dialogue here or decided which is preferrable. Emailing seems to be rather one sided and not very productive, for me any way because I get so many damn emails in a day that I just get sick of looking at the interface.

I will be choosing the core developers here in the next week (right around when we get the dedicated  server)

So during this time I'd like to hear thoughts from everyone JAVA,UNIX & AJAX Pros especially as to where we should begin & some well commented code.

I am going to limit the core development team to 5 people including myself.

I am going to email all of you whom I have talked with an ftp site with username & password for you to upload files to for review.

Please bear in mind that my current host is very picky in terms of what it will allow you to upload and certain characters in file names like for example a .htaccess file will never get uploaded, and .exe will not upload...I think you get the idea.

Those of you who are not choosen to be on the core development team will be given credit on the website IF YOU MAKE A CONTRIBUTION- no matter how big or small. What you might think insignificant another might find extremly helpful.

The core development team will get their portion of any donations, etc. (if any) after maintenance costs are met.

Like I have said before, I'm have never been intrested in doing this with a financial gain in mind.
Rather,as an eductaional experience and a contribution to the open source and global internet community.
So please if you're completely new to ajax, java or xml don't let that shy you away- I like to learn and help others learn to, I think all of our collective efforts here and open discussion will be a useful contribution in itself. There are tons of resources/how tos out the on the web  regardng ajax...but nothing is better than getting your hands dirty

Talk to you all in a bit.

Have I mentioned how much I dislike my current host ? Sorry for the screwy and duplicate emails everyone, I hope I didn't miss anyone.
