We're running Netmail 3.5.2d on SLES9 and have an issue with two of our users, (both accessing their accounts from the same computers). They're running IMAP on both of their accounts, and the problem we're experiencing is apparent corruption in the "Sent Items" folder in their user database. They're using Outlook Express as their primary client. When the problem occurs, they are unable to send new mail. If you log into the webmail client, and try to access the "Sent Items" Folder, the webmail client locks up, and you have to close the browser and re-log in to the account. If I access the user directory from the server consol and delete the .idx file and log back into the account, it locks up again so it's not a simple index corruption issue. If I delete both the .idx and .box files then the account can send mail again, but it doesn't track the sent item. If I delete the .box and .idx, log into the webmail client, re-create the folder with the same name, and try to access it, it locks up. The only way to resolve the issue, is to create a new folder with a different name than "Sent Items" like "Sent" or "SentItems", re-configure the client and web interface to have that be the Sent Items folder, and then it will track sent items until the next time it becomes corrupted, at which point I have to make a new sent items folder with a different name than either of the two previous ones. This issue has been duplicated with both of these users 3 times each. I look forward to your input or responses. Thanks, Dennis deBruyn debruyn at efca.org |

For those asking about SpamAssassin 3 support, unfortunately this is not currently offered. I do intend to fix this deficiency at some point, but not today. I will send a message to netmail-announce when complete. In an attempt to avoid future confusion I have added the below to the documentation page: Note that version numbers for this agent are synced to SpamAssassin. For example, v2.64 of this agent is designed for use with SpamAssassin v2.64. -Pascal |

Hi all, If there's still any support for the spamd daemon that integrates with Netmail there will be a lot more demand for it now that Netmail has been released as open source in Hula. I've built a Hula mail server and was counting on this version of spamd to connect via Nmap but am getting an "Exec format error" when trying to start Spamassassin 3.02 using spamd V 2.64. I assume that Hula will respond to Nmap connections in the same way as Netmail. I'd really like to get this working so if anyone can offer any help I'd really appreciate it. Hi all Good job Pascal! I'm wonder if it'll be spamd.raw for spamassassin 3.0.0 Witch of debian distribution do you use? I prefer debian, but woody and sarge doesn't work with your latest spamd.raw :-( Bartosz from Poland |

I am testing this in my lab environment and am having an issue. If I use the -f switch, spam is flagged properly in the headers. If I do not use the -f switch, spam is not deleted as I expected it to be. Am I doing something wrong? I have not changed anything except the default spam score from 5.0 to 1.0 (for testing). Great, will test and let you know. Will adding headers and Subject Rewrite be supported? I would definitely like to put a tag on the subject line so that a user can see that it is SPAM. Adding the spam score to the message would be nice also. I have been getting some feedback that some messages have been duplicated 3, 4 or more times since adding the spam checking. Thoughts? Related to the Bad Protocol: Bad Header problem? I have a problem where I have netmail listening on a secondary IP address on the NetWare server. All requests to NetMail must be sent to this IP address but all packets from the Netmail server come from the primary address. This has caused a problem and I had to modify spamd to allow the request to come from the primary address. Spamd (shipping) has this option: -A host,..., --allowed-ips=..,.. Limit ip addresses which can connect that does not exist (as far as I can see) in this spamd. I would like to make an enhancement request to have this functionality added. Is DCC, Razor and/or Pyzor supported? Thanks, Gary Faith >>> Pascal <Pas...@Us...> 10/10/2004 8:40:22 PM >>> The errors you are seeing are cosmetic. That bug was fixed in CVS some time ago. I just released 2.64 which contains the fix. Adding headers other than X-SPAM-FLAG is not currently supported. Hey Pascal, I was experiencing some weirdness with the spamd code that I was modifying so I rolled back to your version of spamd. Funny thing is I am seeing this weirdness with your code also. Mail that I am sure is spam is getting chopped. Here is an example of one I received today. The first couple lines of the original header are chopped off and the rest of the header is appended to the first part of the message. I'm sure there was more in the body but it is gone. In the spool directory were the two files related to this mail. Both files (Cxxxxxx.in and Dxxxxxx.msg) were empty. Here is the error in the maillog "Aug 25 07:43:59 scratchy spamd[21157]: bad protocol: header error: 3000 Unknown command^M". Any thoughts? The check for "spamAssassin" to prevent looping is done against the NetMail envelope. This is completely separate from the message headers. The X-Spam-Flag does not exist in this envelope. It is not possible for the sender of an email to arbitrarily add data to the message envelope. It only exists in NetMail. -Pascal Benjamin Ackinclose wrote: > > Hey guys, > > I modified spamd to report back spam score on all messages. That piece > seems to work pretty well. Hey guys, I modified spamd to report back spam score on all messages. That piece seems to work pretty well. I was thinking that since all messages now have the X-Spam-Flag in the header, could I look for that to indicate whether this is the 1st or 2nd time through? My thinking was/is yes but when I replaced the TspamAssassin value with X-Spam-Flag it is not picked up and the mail goes into a loop through nmap. Also, I seem to be getting some kind of html mail that gets through like it's not even checked. It doesn't have the X-Spam-Flag score at all. Wondering if they are catching on and including spamAssassin somewhere in the message so it gets passed. Any thoughts will be appreciated. Thanks Ben |

This bug is fixed in current CVS. Click "browse CVS" from the project home page to download the current version. Most mail will match at least a couple rules. Very few will actually have a score of 0.0. For info on the fields of the message envelope, see the development notes page for a link to Novell's NetMail SDK. -Pascal Benjamin Ackinclose wrote: > > Scott, > I would be interested in looking at your changes. Hi RedHat 2.1 Netmail 3.52a SpamAssassin 2.64 Part 1 I am trying to modify the anti-spam agent to report on all messages. I have no experience with spamassassin or nmap so I will be learning as I go. I have taken some code from the original spamd.raw and have it logging the spam score to syslog. I would like to have it also report the score in the message so I don't have to log into my mail server. I was first setting the X-SPAM-FLAG value to YES or NO depending on whether it is spam or not. Then I will figure out how to insert the spam score. The flag piece works fine but what I found was during the second check when it looks for SpamAssassin in the message and then executes the QDONE command it seems to return the local email address instead of the QDONE return code of 1000 causing the return test to fail. I guess it doesn't really matter because it is exiting anyways but it logs it in maillog. What I have seen the first time through when it pushes values into the envelope they are F<sending email address> A<dont know what these numbers are> X1 L<local email address> The second time through when it reads the lines looking for SpamAssassin it looks like it is F<sending email address> A<dont know what these numbers are> X1 SpamAssassin L<local email address> I guess what all this blabbering means is I am looking for info on the message format. What is each line supposed to look like? How was SpamAssassin inserted before the L<email> value when it comes after the envelope loop. And what ever you might think is relevant but that I don't know enough to ask about. Part 2. It's much shorter. All my spam scores are 0.0 How can I make it score something so I know SpamAssassin is really working? Hope this all makes sense. Thanks Ben |
