#5 Cannot escape out of line input dialogs

Hitting the escape key in a line dialog (e.g. "For what do you wish?"), does not escape out of the dialog, but displays [^ in the dialog instead.

Fixing this will require rewriting this function to accept one character of input at a time, rather than a whole line all at once.
