Hello, Firstly i think netdude is a awesome piece of software. Could one of the developers/some one associated with the project, please tell me netdude's licensing terms ?? My guess would be MIT, but an official statement/declaration would be nice (A very superficial search revealed very little explicit information about licensing) Regards, Harish |

Hello, I'm trying to develop a program using libnetdude that reads a pcap trace from stdin, but there does not appear to be any obvious filename to pass in to libnd_trace_new to tell it to read from stdin? "-" does not work, as in libpcap, nor does simply having no filename. The reason I want to do this is because my trace files are compressed (to conserve disk space) and would like to decompress them on the fly and pipe the resulting packets into my libnetdude program, e.g.: zcat trace.pcap.gz | ./my_libnd_prog "stdin" > output If anyone knows how I can do this, I would be very grateful. Thanks, Shane ------------ Shane Alcock WAND Network Research Group University of Waikato Hamilton, New Zealand |

Hi,
I'm having the same issue and was wondering if any progress has been made in
finding a solution? I'm running Ubuntu 10.04.

It suggests that the symbol is defined and global, so if the application links in the .so correctly, things should work. I think we need to figure out what the different platforms do differently here. Let me rebuild things on Fedora 14 and see if everything still works as intended. -- Cheers, Christian |

btw, I'm going to try with libnetdude later this evening. This morning, I was running netdude on a vmware instance of debian, while trying to access the gui over x11 thro' vpn, which was quite slow anyway. Hello team, I have the problem with netdude working. Netdude was given from source tarballs. I build GTK 1.2.10 glib 1.2.10 libnetnude and netnude was successfully started... but any actions with netnude GUI return me "segmentation fault". Maybe problem consist in following: 1. I has problem with building plugin tamplates and because I skipped them. 2. On my system installed GTK 2.0 too. Could you help me with building netdude on Linux? How do it right? >netdude Gdk-CRITICAL **: file gdkfont.c: line 318 (gdk_string_width): assertion `font != NULL' failed. You can do this in Netdude, but you'll have to write a libnetdude plugin for it. I'd estimate the amount of code needed at around 30 lines. You'll need to use a packet iterator to iterate over the trace, libnd_packet_adjust_len() to modify the packet size, and libnd_packet_fix() to correct the checksums. I'm happy to explain further if you decide to implement this in Netdude. Another tool that might work for you is Scapy. -- Cheers, Christian |

This is a dynamic loader problem -- for some reason not all plugins are found. In particular, the IP plugin for the GUI cannot locate the backend's IP functionality plugin. What's the output of "lndtool -r", what platform are you on, and what compiler are you using? -- Cheers, Christian |

Hallo Group members. I have a trace, where packets are cut and I need to expand their payload and recompute checksum to have length declared in packet headers. Is netdude tool able to do this? in bach mode (trace is long!). I asking because I am running fc12; there is not ready to use netdude rpm package and I have some problems running it, thus I do not know whether it is worth fighting with it. best regards, Pawel |

Netdude 0.5.1 and libnetdude 0.12 are now available. This is mainly a bugfix/update release, including fixes for 64-bit platforms as well as compatibility fixes for recent libtool versions, ensuring that Netdude's plugin mechanism continues to function on current distributions. I've cleaned up some of the autoconf code as well, which hopefully did not break things anywhere. If you notice any issues, please let me know. http://downloads.sourceforge.net/netdude/netdude-0.5.1.tar.gz http://downloads.sourceforge.net/netdude/libnetdude-0.12.tar.gz Enjoy! -- Cheers, Christian |

Ah nicely done. Do you get the "error" message of "Trace-Set plugin
not found" whenever using lndtool? I put the word error in quotes as
nothing seems to break, and the Trace-Set plugin is present when
issuing the "lndtool -p" command. Maybe it's just my system?
[...]
$ lndtool -p | grep "Trace-Set"
Trace-Set plugin not found
Trace-Set 0.10

I have the same problem :(
I installed libnetdude but when i type:
lndtool --plugin-dir
result:
NONE/share/libnetdude/0.11/plugins
I think that is the problem. it's hardcoded inside the lndtool.c
else if (! strcmp(argv[i], "--plugin-dir"))
{
printf("NONE/share/libnetdude/0.11/plugins\n");
}
Any ideas how to solve this ?
Hi,
I am new to this mailing list.
While building libnetdude-plugin-essentials-0.10 i am getting the
following error.
libtool: link: only absolute run-paths are allowed
make[2]: *** [libnd_conntrack.la] Error 1
make[2]: Leaving directory
`/root/netdude/libnetdude-plugin-essentials-0.10/plugins/conntrack'
make[1]: *** [install-recursive] Error 1
make[1]: Leaving directory
`/root/netdude/libnetdude-plugin-essentials-0.10/plugins'
make: *** [install-recursive] Error 1
I have followed the folowing steps.
1-first I ran ./configure
2-Then I ran make
make gives the following output
Plugin Essentials Configuration Summary
====================================================
lndtool used:
/usr/local/bin/lndtool
Plugin directory:
NONE/share/libnetdude/0.11/plugins
Header directory:
/usr/local/include/libnetdude/0.11
Setup finished. Now run:
$ make
# make install
3- I ran make install.
The step fails with the above error.
please help me out

Hi James and Christian (and anyone else out there on the list), Thanks for the feedback too Christian. I think there was a problem with some conflicts from the Ubuntu package I had installed/reinstalled. I undid everything and followed James' guide and it worked out. In case anyone else out there wants to use Ubuntu + netdude I found another little problem with installing the "Essentials Pack" of plugins from http://netdude.sourceforge.net/plugins-libnetdude.html. You'll need to copy the file ltdl.h from "/netdude-0.5.0/libltdl/ltdl.h" to "/usr/local/stow/libnetdude-0.11/include/libnetdude/0.11". Maybe it was just my system, but FYI just in case :-) Glenn On Wed, Jul 15, 2009 at 6:05 PM, Christian Kreibich<chr...@wh...> wrote: > Hi Glenn, > > Sorry to hear of your installation troubles. Hi Glenn, Sorry to hear of your installation troubles. If libnd.h isn't found, that's usually an indication of something pretty basic going wrong. Are you in a position where you could try building from CVS sources? I fixed a directory naming issue a while back that may be causing this. If you find it works for you from CVS, it's really time for me to roll some new releases... -- Cheers, Christian |

I initially installed netdude via the package manager on my Ubuntu system. After playing with it for a while I realised I needed the libnetdude-plugin-essentials bits and pieces, and noticed at the same time that the Ubuntu repo version was out of date compared to the official website version.
