When looking at the "device view", with "show all
ports", you see all
the ports, with description, speed, mac addresses etc etc.

You can also disable/enable ports and if ports have
been previously
enabled/disabled you can view a per-port log.

But as far as I can see you cannot create a log entry
without (eg)
disabling then re-enabling a port.

It would be useful to be able to either enter a "log
entry" for a port,
or perhaps to have a short "comments" field where you
could enter some
details about whatever is connected to that port - ie
information stored
within netdisco, rather than derived via snmp from the

Probably should be added to the (presently non-existent) Port Log display.

I can second this feature. I would really like to have our helpdesk be able to make annotations on ports (user connected, wall port or patch panel port #) without them actually modifying the switch configuration.

This would also require giving a non-administrator account the ability to write port descriptions.

    Implemented in [06f62f9]

The Port Log icon is now visible to all users. On the Port Log page, any user can also add a "comment" entry to the log. The Device Ports list has a new column which is the most recent comment entry in the log.

That is, user can add a comment to the Device Port Log, and have it shown on the device ports page as a column "Last Comment".

For now it's running an extra SQL query per device port row when the Last Comment column is shown (ie expensive).
