I use NetBSD 2.0 now and I would use your patch for my kernel, but I dont know exacly, is version 1.6 usable for NetBSD 2.0.
You can use 1.6 or check out the version from the head of the CVS repository, but both will probably require some patching to get working on 2.0, as the code was developed against NetBSD-CURRENT.
The NetBSD 2.0 release is supposed to have an earlier version already included in the source tree and it may be much easier to try enabling that FIRST. If (and only if) this doesn't work or work well enough for you, then you can try the method I suggested above. I am going to install 2.0 soon and I will create a branch of development for it.
I hope this was helpful. If not, post more!
On second thought, I think that if you choose to try this code, you should use the code available from CVS as it is probably close in time to 2.0's release.
