I just configured netatalk on Ubuntu 12.04 and apparently if one use the official repo you get netatalk 2.2.1 which, afaik, is fine for my purpose.
I first configured Ubuntu to talk to our LDAP directory and this works fine and dandy and users can login and have their directory created. I then tested the default netatalk configuration by connecting as one of my LDAP users using AFP from a OS 10.8 client and the user can access the share just fine. I assumed this means that the LDAP part of netatalk is working. I now added the TimeMachine part (Which is the purpose of this node) using this syntax:
/backup TimeMachine cnidscheme:cdb options:usedots,upriv,tm
When I now setup TimeMachine on the Mac I get a "osstatus error 2" and in the auth log I see:
Apr 16 16:01:22 tm afpd: pam_unix(netatalk:session): session opened for user acme by (uid=0)
Apr 16 16:01:22 tm afpd: pam_unix(netatalk:session): session closed for user acme
I am a bit lost in how to troubleshoot this or what info I should provide to make it easier for someone to see what is wrong here.
