In fact, there is another one, that's called 'hash' (also known as 'mtab' in the past) But there are good reasons to avoid mtab as it can lead to data loss under some circumstances (unfortunately hash/mtab seems to be the default ID scheme of the first netatalk 1.5pre versions -- IMHO a good reason to upgrade to a more recent and stable version) > Any opinions on which is the better scheme to go with, or at least the pros > and cons? I tried to answer such a question a few months ago. Read from here on <http://users.phg-online.de/tk/netatalk/ID%20schemes%20(was:%20Re:%20afpd.mt ab).html> and follow the two links to Roland Schulz' excellent postings on the topic... > I'd be wanting to use all the same shares with Samba. I haven't tested with CNID for months, so I cannot give you recommendations about what to use. When I tested the last time, there were issues when there is a second filesharing daemon doing some file handling inside netatalk shares. But Joe Clarke continued to work on CNID in the meantime, there exist a cron-based CNID database-maintainance script (bin/cnid_maint) and many people in larger installations use CNID even on main production servers without hassles...
