When doing service location via AppleTalk, the server will be discovered by its NBP registration of type AFPServer, then the associated DDP address will be used to do an initial FPGetSrvrInfo request. If the server answers, it will sent -- amongst other informations -- a list of possible connection methods back to the asking client, potentially containing an IP address or a FQDN (with or without port), too. Then it's up to the client to decide how to establish the real AFP connection. Normally they prefer AFP over TCP, even if the first connection has been made via NBP/DDP. Regards, Thomas |
