There is a patch that adds netlink support to netstat (much faster than parsing proc)

(Unfortunately it doesn't fallback correctly to proc if diag support is modular in kernel and not all modules are loaded)

    Arkadiusz, thanks for the pointer. I think its worth trying to get that merged in a way that both ABIs work. Maybe Patrick wants to help?
