No

as I was doing a massive upload and monitoring data sent via ifconfig, the
TX bytes field wrapped around and went back from 0
here's a snip
.......
RX packets:995036 errors:0 dropped:0 overruns:0 frame:0
TX packets:3009297 errors:0 dropped:0 overruns:0 carrier:0
collisions:0 txqueuelen:1000
RX bytes:179359738 (179.3 MB) TX bytes:106766487 (106.7 MB)

Note how huge is amount of TX packets, while TX bytes wrapped around

    I am not sure if we want to add netlink API, I track those requests in a seperate milestone now. If somebody wants to contribute mail net-tools-devel@ please.

    Use 64-bit Linux may help.

    looks like this got fixed at some point. on my system, 32bit ifconfig matches 64bit ifconfig output:

    $ file ./ifconfig
    ./ifconfig: ELF 32-bit LSB pie executable, Intel 80386, version 1 (SYSV), dynamically linked, interpreter /lib/ld-linux.so.2, for GNU/Linux 3.2.0, with debug_info, not stripped
    $ ./ifconfig | grep bytes
            RX packets 16084537619  bytes 12591345399054 (11.4 TiB)
            TX packets 6849379243  bytes 3465498153964 (3.1 TiB)
            RX packets 95190284  bytes 1922648264286 (1.7 TiB)
            TX packets 95190284  bytes 1922648264286 (1.7 TiB)
