For the NET-SNMP installation is there any prerequisite SW that needs to be installed? For instance do I need visual studio installed before I try to install and use NET-SNMP? You should be able to do what you have laid out. Here is a possible starting point. To restrict who can access SNMP and what community string they use: com2sec
IP/CIDR <community string> For example: com2sec mysec 10.10.10.0/24 'my_string' all access from any IP on that subnet to get specific IP: 10.10.10.10/32 To Control Access to OIDs, I would use VACM approach # group.name model sec.name group RWGroup v2c mysec # create a view and set what can and cannot be accessed view rwView included .1 80 view rwView excluded .1.3.6.1.4.1.2021 fe view rwView excluded .1.3.6.1.4.1.8072 fe # context model sec.level match read.view write.view notif access RWGroup "" v2c noauth exact rwView rwView none On Tue, Jan 14, 2020 at 12:55 AM Nagarjun G <nag...@gm...> wrote: > Hi All, > > We have been using net-snmp to manage our devices. Hi All, We have been using net-snmp to manage our devices. We have a new requirement now which is described below. My current configuration is as below : I have an snmp agent which can be configured to run any version(v1/v2c/v3) of snmp. We are currently accessing the snmp agent through mib browser. This has been there quite very long. Recent requirement : There is another snmp manager which will access our snmp agent using only snmpv2c which will have access to very limited OID's. What I need to achieve is: I need to make my snmp agent respond to two different snmp managers, one responding to v1/v2c/v3 requests and another responding to only v2 requests with having limited access to few OID's. Is it possible to achieve the above configuration ? what type of access control configuration is needed ? Regards Nagarjun |

Hi Seyfullah, How about installing v5.8.1.pre1 instead of v5.8? A large number of bugs has been fixed in v5.8.1.pre1. That version is available at https://github.com/net-snmp/net-snmp/archive/V5-8-patches.zip. Bart. |

If you extracted the tarball, then you can find it in the local directory. If you have installed it on your system (assuming a make install was done) /usr/local/bin/mib2c At least that is where it is on my Ubuntu install. Hello, I am wanting to use mib2c to generate some skeleton code for an SNMP subagent. But I do not seem to be able to find the script anywhere. Hello all, I've a problem to communicate with my agentx. I've set the MIBS environment variable by typing 'export MIBS=ALL' First, I write a small mib containing 2 objects (counter1 and counters2). Thanks to the mib2c tool, i've generated the C code and update the data needed. I follow all the steps needed in order to configure the master agent, make and make install. All these steps succeeded and through another console I was able to send 'snmpget' command and get an answer. Following this, I've created a daemon by following the tutorial on site 'Writing a subagent'. My daemon is working, I've compiled it and see that the reading of the shared memory is done every time a value is updated in the shared memory. To launch the snmpd, I use the following command line: snmpd -Dagentx -f -Lo -C -c /usr/local/share/snmpd.conf --agentXSocket=tcp:localhost:1705 udp:1161 registered debug token agentx, 1 Log handling defined - disabling stderr agentx_register_app_config_handler: registering .conf token for "agentxsocket" agentx_register_app_config_handler: registering .conf token for "agentxperms" agentx_register_app_config_handler: registering .conf token for "agentxRetries" agentx_register_app_config_handler: registering .conf token for "agentxTimeout" Turning on AgentX master support. agentx/config: port spec: /var/agentx/master agentx/config: port permissions: 777 777 agentx/config: socket permissions: 777 (511) agentx/config: directory permissions: 777 (511) agentx/config: port spec: tcp:localhost:1705 agentx/master: initializing... agentx/master: initializing... I'm quite lost, it looks that snmpd is not correctly configured. Moreover, I don't really understand, why when I'm typing the following command, snmpget -v 2c -c MyComRO localhost system.sysLocation.0 I've also a "Timeout:no response from localhost". I've also checked that the Shared Memory is correctly created and available. Do you have any clue in order to debug it or to understand what is not correctly configured ? By advance thanks for your help. -- Best Regards. Phil |

I can see that in sprint_realloc_octet_string() in snmplib/mib.c involves in sprinting OCTET STRINGS for snmpgets and walks. Is there any value to check ? Also hints, enums and units passed in NULL. 2. Why is the IP display in this manner ie. each octet in ascii . Is it by default ? Note:- I don't want to use -Ox option as this will display all the strings value in Hex. Regards, Anshul Bek |

Hi, I am using Net-SNMP version 5.8 on CentOS 6.8 as a master agent with an AgentX SubAgent. When my AgentX SubAgent takes too much time to respond and times out, the Net-SNMP daemon crashes. I have searched for this issue and found https://github.com/net-snmp/net-snmp/commit/793d596838ff7cb48a73b675d62897c56c9e62df but this seems to be already included in version 5.8. Is this a known issue? Is it already patched? If so, where can I find the patch? Here is the crash dump that I have in my log when this happens: Unknown operation 6 in agentx_got_response *** glibc detected *** /usr/local/netsnmp/netsnmp_base/sbin/snmpd: malloc(): smallbin double linked list corrupted: 0x00005603745c4110 *** ======= Backtrace: ========= /lib64/libc.so.6(+0x3a24675e5e)[0x7fc9d5d72e5e] /lib64/libc.so.6(+0x3a2467a528)[0x7fc9d5d77528] /lib64/libc.so.6(__libc_malloc+0x5c)[0x7fc9d5d77b1c] /lib64/libc.so.6(vasprintf+0x140)[0x7fc9d5d6c340] /usr/local/netsnmp/5.8/lib/libnetsnmp.so.35(snmp_vlog+0x42)[0x7fc9d709ea9c] /usr/local/netsnmp/5.8/lib/libnetsnmp.so.35(snmp_log+0xb9)[0x7fc9d709ebb3] /usr/local/netsnmp/5.8/lib/libnetsnmpagent.so.35(agentx_got_response+0x669)[0x7fc9d78e2586] /usr/local/netsnmp/5.8/lib/libnetsnmp.so.35(+0x5778c)[0x7fc9d707c78c] /usr/local/netsnmp/5.8/lib/libnetsnmp.so.35(snmp_sess_timeout+0x2a5)[0x7fc9d707ca54] /usr/local/netsnmp/5.8/lib/libnetsnmp.so.35(snmp_timeout+0x33)[0x7fc9d707c0f0] /usr/local/netsnmp/netsnmp_base/sbin/snmpd(+0x5081)[0x5603723c3081] /usr/local/netsnmp/netsnmp_base/sbin/snmpd(main+0x19b8)[0x5603723c28ac] /lib64/libc.so.6(__libc_start_main+0x100)[0x7fc9d5d1bd20] /usr/local/netsnmp/netsnmp_base/sbin/snmpd(+0x2b79)[0x5603723c0b79] ======= Memory map: ======== 5603723be000-5603723c5000 r-xp 00000000 fc:05 405833 /usr/local/netsnmp/5.8/sbin/snmpd 5603725c4000-5603725c5000 r--p 00006000 fc:05 405833 /usr/local/netsnmp/5.8/sbin/snmpd 5603725c5000-5603725c6000 rw-p 00007000 fc:05 405833 /usr/local/netsnmp/5.8/sbin/snmpd 56037444d000-5603745ee000 rw-p 00000000 00:00 0 [heap] 7fc9c8000000-7fc9c8021000 rw-p 00000000 00:00 0 7fc9c8021000-7fc9cc000000 ---p 00000000 00:00 0 7fc9ceeaa000-7fc9ceec0000 r-xp 00000000 fc:05 1315920 /lib64/libgcc_s-4.4.7-20120601.so.1 7fc9ceec0000-7fc9cf0bf000 ---p 00016000 fc:05 1315920 /lib64/libgcc_s-4.4.7-20120601.so.1 7fc9cf0bf000-7fc9cf0c0000 rw-p 00015000 fc:05 1315920 /lib64/libgcc_s-4.4.7-20120601.so.1 7fc9cf0c0000-7fc9cf0cd000 r-xp 00000000 fc:05 1310749 /lib64/libnss_files-2.12.so 7fc9cf0cd000-7fc9cf2cc000 ---p 0000d000 fc:05 1310749 /lib64/libnss_files-2.12.so 7fc9cf2cc000-7fc9cf2cd000 r--p 0000c000 fc:05 1310749 /lib64/libnss_files-2.12.so 7fc9cf2cd000-7fc9cf2ce000 rw-p 0000d000 fc:05 1310749 /lib64/libnss_files-2.12.so 7fc9cf2ce000-7fc9d5163000 r--p 00000000 fc:05 402284 /usr/lib/locale/locale-archive 7fc9d5163000-7fc9d5165000 r-xp 00000000 fc:05 1315924 /lib64/libfreebl3.so 7fc9d5165000-7fc9d5364000 ---p 00002000 fc:05 1315924 /lib64/libfreebl3.so 7fc9d5364000-7fc9d5365000 r--p 00001000 fc:05 1315924 /lib64/libfreebl3.so 7fc9d5365000-7fc9d5366000 rw-p 00002000 fc:05 1315924 /lib64/libfreebl3.so 7fc9d5366000-7fc9d53e9000 r-xp 00000000 fc:05 1315917 /lib64/libm-2.12.so 7fc9d53e9000-7fc9d55e8000 ---p 00083000 fc:05 1315917 /lib64/libm-2.12.so 7fc9d55e8000-7fc9d55e9000 r--p 00082000 fc:05 1315917 /lib64/libm-2.12.so 7fc9d55e9000-7fc9d55ea000 rw-p 00083000 fc:05 1315917 /lib64/libm-2.12.so 7fc9d55ea000-7fc9d58c5000 r-xp 00000000 fc:05 403870 /usr/local/ssl/1.0.2s/lib/libcrypto.so.1.0.0 7fc9d58c5000-7fc9d5ac4000 ---p 002db000 fc:05 403870 /usr/local/ssl/1.0.2s/lib/libcrypto.so.1.0.0 7fc9d5ac4000-7fc9d5ae3000 r--p 002da000 fc:05 403870 /usr/local/ssl/1.0.2s/lib/libcrypto.so.1.0.0 Thank you, [http://www.cisco.com/c/dam/m/en_us/signaturetool/images/banners/standard/09_standard_graphic.png] David Moriconi Software Engineer dmo...@ci...<mailto:dmo...@ci...> Tel: 5143333808 Cisco Systems Canada Co. / Les Systemes Cisco Canada CIE Cisco.com<http://www.cisco.com/web/CA/> [http://www.cisco.com/assets/swa/img/thinkbeforeyouprint.gif] Think before you print. Hi, I am using net-snmp5.7.3 agent. I am using USM user table to create 2nd and 3rd Snmpv3 user. The user is getting created successful and I am able to contact using the new user. However these user accounts are not persistent and they get cleared off after power cycle. Is there anyway to make these users persistent? Also can how can I restrict the maximum number of users that can be created using USM to 3? Regards, Rahul Sharma. |
