This is a simple little patch that has just one purpose: it causes
the mouse pointer to disappear when you type and reappear
when the mouse is moved or the window focus changes. I call it
the polite pointer patch because the pointer is now polite enough
to get out of your way while you work.

The patch itself is very short (about 100 lines including
whitespace, context, and installation instructions :-), and most
other editors/word processors have this feature, so I'd like to
submit this for consideration for integration with NEdit.

Cheers,

It looks good, but I can imagine that some people
don't like it (I'm not too comfortable with it
either, having to wave the mouse to find out were
    the pointer is).
It's probably better to make this behaviour optional.
    It doesn't have to be a full blown preference;
an X resource should be sufficient, IMO.

Your wish is my command, edg. The resource is "nedit.hidePointer"
and it defaults to True. (This behavior really is quite standard on most
modern editors and even text entry widgets!)

From what I see in the patch, I am supposed to change the setting of nedit.hidePointer in NEdit's rc file.
AFAIK, this a first, all other settings are either set in ~/.Xdefaults or in the GUI.

Nope, it's an normal resource from the .Xdefaults file. I called it
nedit.hidePointer, but in the version that got merged into NEdit Steve
LoBasso changed it to nedit.typingHidesPointer and made it default to
false. :-( The patch is closed now, by the way.
