I use vanilla Slackware 12 with xfce and nedit 5.5

For my own purposes I'm making a QWERTY keyboard with french symbols. This is my file /etc/X11/xkb/symbols/mat:
-----------
partial default alphanumeric_keys
xkb_symbols "basic" {
include "latin"
name[Group1]="Poland";

key <AC01> { [a, A, U00E0, U00C0 ] };

include "keypad(comma)"
include "level3(ralt_switch)"
};
-----------

U00E0 is "small letter a with grave", U00C0 is "capital..."

After doing "setxkbmap mat" in a console the following is observed:

* I can type agrave and Agrave in firefox or in abiword (and probably in other applications as well)
* I can not type these two letters into nedit.
* I can copy these two letters from, say, firefox to nedit.

If in above file I change U00E0 to U00E1 (which is "a with acute"), I can normally type "a with acute" everywhere, including nedit. Also, changing U00E0 to several other codes resulted in situation in which I could type apropriate letters in nedit. Only agrave and Agrave seem to cause problems for nedit.

My primary font in nedit is:
-adobe-courier-medium-r-normal--10-100-75-75-m-60-iso8859-1

Using agrave and Agrave instead of U00E0 and U00C0 didn't change the situation.
