#59 TeX (?) crash

I do this with the snapshot from 4th August, that I've
compiled yesterday.
Start it, in default settings, i.e. without .nedit
You have an empty window.
Hit space and <strg>-s to save it as file test.tex
(only the ending .tex is
important of course). Go to
Preferences->Default Settings->Syntax High.-
>Recognition Patterns
In the menu click on the patterns `Inline Math' (it is
below the Verbatim
patterns, directly under Verbatim 3, note: not `Inline
Set this pattern from Pass-1 to Pass-2 and click OK.
Now give in two dollar signs and set the cursor back
between them.
Hit return and again return.
I get a crash then.

I don't think that this is connected to the TeX
pattern, actually. To me it looks more as if there
gets something mixed up between pass-1 and pass-2.
But I'm not sure.

Confirmed. I think I even posted a stack trace on the mailinglist, but can't locate
    the message currently.
Would be nice to have this fixed for 5.2 ...

I increase priority to emphasize that we
like to get this fixed before release.

I've committed a fix that should at least prevent a crash.
I'm not 100% sure, though, that it cannot result in an
    incorrect highlighting.
But since the original problem is so hard to trigger
(otherwise we certainly would have had many crash reports
before; Joor is probably the only one who experienced a
similar crash a few months ago), the chances of an
    incorrect highlighting are extremely low.

No, it wasn't only Joor experiencing this crash. I studied
the mailing lists archive and at least someone else
complaint about this, saying something similiar to `there
is somehow a weird behaviour somewhere in the TeX
patterns', which isn't of course any helpful bug report at
all. But how would you report it, if you don't have any
idea of what could be wrong. Is it the pattern, is it
something in your file or is it something totally different?

Nevertheless I'm glad to hear that it is fixed. Great
thanks. I'm going to test it soon.

It was a problem with the highlighting routines that
could only be triggered when using pass-2 patterns.
The TeX patterns had nothing to do with it.

Ok, at least one comment indicating it's
fixed in addition to Ed's statement ...
