I have found that when there are over 15 large ebooks in the epub format in the books directory I get an error every startup after reading the book directory. I have to delete the dslibris.xml file and restart the program.
the xml file
Zelazy and Butcher ftw.
If you don't want to lose your settings, try removing the contents of the <books> to </books> tag, except for those books that you're reading. when you restart, it will reindex the directory, but you'll still have your place in your book.
I've checked, in this case the problem was with the '&'s you had in your filenames. That should be fixed in next release, whenever that might happen to be. In a case where problem happens without that, I'd be happy to receive the relevant "dslibris.xml" and "dslibris.log", and see what I can do.
