Ndis wrapper is such a good idea. My question is this, could something similar be done with other devices for Linux? For example, I have a printer that has Windows drivers (of course) but it does not work under Linux. Does Windows have a printer driver API that could be implemented under Linux to allow all printers to work under Linux? |

dear: I have a problem when I try to install ndiswrapper. when I make the ndiswrapper, I got a following message: *** WARNING: Kernel is compiled with 4K stack size option (CONFIG_4KSTACKS); many Windows drivers will not work with this option enabled. Disable CONFIG_4KSTACKS option, recompile and install kernel then ,after installation and when i try to do "modprobe ndiswrapper" command , I got the error. Could you give me a help? Thanks! best regards Lejing |

The idea of ndiswrapper can be used for any device, but supporting other devices requires extending ndiswrapper; ndiswrapper currently implements NDIS (network API) and some kernel API used by network drivers only. Couple of non-wireless network devices are known to work - see project page and wiki List. I don't know much about what is involved to support printers; which specific printer are you looking at and where can one find Windows driver for it? -- Giri |
