Hello, I have a Netgear WG111 802.11g USB adapter. It's running on a Gentoo Linux system with kernel 2.6.13. It's currently running ndiswrapper 1.5, but the same problem has existed on 1.1, 1.2, and 1.4 as well. Kernel info: Linux pod 2.6.13-gentoo-r3 #1 Tue Oct 25 15:34:53 EDT 2005 i686 Pentium II (Klamath) GenuineIntel GNU/Linux The card works fine for a while, but eventually always locks up the system. It may be related to the router resetting itself: it seems that whenever the power goes out (at which time the router goes out, but the computers stay on since they're on UPSes), the system locks up. (Though it happens almost daily anyway, even without the power going out.) I was browsing through the wiki and tried some stuff mentioned there: - 4k stacks are off in my kernel: $ grep -i stacks /boot/config-20051025-1546--2.6.13-gentoo-r3 # CONFIG_4KSTACKS is not set - the word "Hangcheck" does not appear in the syslog at all - "iwconfig wlan0 ndis_reset" -- this causes a kernel panic every time (see trace at end of this message) - ehci_hcd module is not running - there don't appear to be any IRQ conflicts: $ cat /proc/interrupts CPU0 0: 114935 XT-PIC timer 1: 10 XT-PIC i8042 2: 0 XT-PIC cascade 9: 17631 XT-PIC uhci_hcd:usb1 14: 3988 XT-PIC ide0 NMI: 0 ERR: 0 - ACPI not in use: $ dmesg|grep -i acpi BIOS-e820: 000000000fff0000 - 000000000fff8000 (ACPI data) BIOS-e820: 000000000fff8000 - 0000000010000000 (ACPI NVS) ACPI: Unable to locate RSDP ACPI: Subsystem revision 20050408 ACPI: Interpreter disabled. pnp: PnP ACPI: disabled I'd really like to get this card running stably. I've tried both the Gentoo package of ndiswrapper, and compiling it from source with "make DEBUG=6 IO_DEBUG=1 EVENT_DEBUG=1 USB_DEBUG=1". I haven't seen any debugging output that looks related though. Here's everything from dmesg when ndiswrapper is first started: ndiswrapper version 1.5 loaded (preempt=yes, smp=no) ndiswrapper: driver netwg111 (NETGEAR, Inc.,03/03/2004, 1.0.8.4) loaded wlan0: vendor: 'NETGEAR WG111 802.11g Wireless USB2.0 Adapter' wlan0: ndiswrapper ethernet device 00:09:5b:b5:10:d6 using driver netwg111, 0846:4220.0.conf wlan0: encryption modes supported: WEP; TKIP with WPA; AES/CCMP with WPA usbcore: registered new driver ndiswrapper ndiswrapper (iw_set_tx_power:450): setting tx_power failed (C00000BB) That's about it. There's nothing printed in the syslog at all when the system locks up; the only way I can get the panic-output is to be on a console when it happens. Below is the output from the panic. Please let me know what other info I can provide. Have you tried using other windows drivers for the adapter, maybe download other versions from the netgear site? Am Montag, 14. It was working for some time, but in certain conditions it locked. It could work OK for a ftp transfer at full bandwidth, but it locked with multiple web requests. The router/AP were OK and I had to unplug the WG111 and reinsert it. Some time it worked some time I got the panic. Apparently it is not your case since I see your kernel loads uhci_hcd module but I solved by disabling USB2.0 on the motherboard and now is stable. I discovered when reinstalling WinXp that there are patches to be installed for the VIA chipset of my MB to handle usb2.0. Additionally my WG111 is marked as v2 and it may be not your case but il loads a different driver. ndiswrapper version 1.5 loaded (preempt=yes,smp=nowlan0: ndiswrapper wlan0: ethernet device 00:0f:b5:01:02:5f using driver netwg111, 0846:4240.0.conf wlan0: vendor: 'NETGEAR WG111 802.11g Wireless USB2.0 Adapter' ndiswrapper: driver netwg111 (NETGEAR, Inc.,06/04/2004, 3.0.18.201) loaded > - ehci_hcd module is not running > 9: 17631 XT-PIC uhci_hcd:usb1 > ndiswrapper version 1.5 loaded (preempt=yes, smp=no) > ndiswrapper: driver netwg111 (NETGEAR, Inc.,03/03/2004, 1.0.8.4) loaded > wlan0: vendor: 'NETGEAR WG111 802.11g Wireless USB2.0 Adapter' > wlan0: ndiswrapper ethernet device 00:09:5b:b5:10:d6 using driver > netwg111, 0846:4220.0.conf Ciao Giovanni -- A computer is like an air conditioner, it stops working when you open Windows.
