Hello All, First off, Great work on this project! I've been up and running for ages with my Dell Inspiron 8600 w/ Truemobile 1300 (14e4 4320). I had previously tried the "other" project that's no longer free, but was never able to get it to work. Kudos! I've got one small problem: I'm running Mandrake 9.2, and when I enable DMA/32-bit access on /dev/hda, ndiswrapper locks the keyboard after an indeterminate amount of time. If I leave the settings at no-DMA/16-bit (default), everything runs flawlessly for days on end. Any idea why this is or what I can do about it? If you read the subject, you're probably wondering what this all this has to do with Gentoo. I convined my office-mate to use ndiswrapper on his newly-installed Gentoo on a Dell Inspiron 600m. He has the same card (14e4 4320), and the install script runs successfully. It creates wlan0, but iwclient never picks up the access point. (ESSID="", router address = all FF). I found a tutorial at: http://forums.gentoo.org/viewtopic.php?t=125627&sid=2e5453e1c1b93f9223186914c4ec0199 and although we followed it to the letter, we had no better luck than just doing it manually (after install.sh) Does anyone have any simple answers, or a walkthrough? Thanks, Phill W. |

Read the FAQ (especially on why you can't set essid) and tips on the project page. -- Giri |

Yeah, we tried variations on that theme ("FAQ: I can't set ESSID!") for a couple hours straight (config'ing, re-config'ing, re-installing, etc). Still, no dice. It's quite a puzzler. Any idea about: >> >>I've got one small problem: I'm running Mandrake 9.2, and when I >>enable DMA/32-bit access on /dev/hda, ndiswrapper locks the keyboard >>after an indeterminate amount of time. Do you see the AP in 'iwlist scan'? Until it appears in the scan, you won't be able to associate. BTW, the problem is not being able to set essid, but the card refuses to associate with the AP. Is it specific to this AP or the laptop (i.e., can you associate to another AP or can you associate another laptop to this AP)? Try setting the key with both open and restricted modes. -- Giri |

Nope, no APs with iwlist scan. I'm using the AP with my own laptop using ndiswrapper in the same location. He has not tried it with a different AP, but since we have the same card, I'd assumed his should connect as mine does. As a side note, I'm not using WEP (for ease of testing the setup), so no key is needed. --Phill W. Giridhar Pemmasani wrote: >Do you see the AP in 'iwlist scan'? Oh boy, well, we'd tried all the suggested troubleshooting (much of it before I posted to the list). It turns out, my officemate had TURNED OFF his wireless card in the BIOS! Once he reactivated it, ndiswrapper works beautifully! Thanks for the help and patience. --Phill W. Giridhar Pemmasani wrote: >Do you see the AP in 'iwlist scan'? It all depends on the computer you're using. This was a Dell 600m (mine is a Dell Inspiron 8600). If I recall correctly, you turn off the internal wireless card on page 2 or 3 of the BIOS settings. My appologies on the question about the keyboard locking up. I completely missed it in the FAQ, since it had been working before I started messing with my HD parameters. I'll fix the ACPI init parameter, and hopefully that'll fix the problem. (Have to wait till I get home for that.) -- Phill W. <sig> ---- I should spend more time re-reading FAQs -- </sig> >>Read the FAQ (especially on why you can't set essid) and tips on the project page. >>-- Giri Phill Wiggin wrote: > ---snip-- > >> >> I've got one small problem: I'm running Mandrake 9.2, and when I >> enable DMA/32-bit access on /dev/hda, ndiswrapper locks the keyboard >> after an indeterminate amount of time.
