Dear Listreader, I could not get the ndiswrapper with the Netgear WG511 - made in china ve= rsion to run. I compiled and installed the 0.12 version of ndiswrapper, install= ed the SMC driver from http://www.smc-europe.com/english/support/driver_manu= al/wirel/2802W_V2.html as it is described here: http://ndiswrapper.sourceforge.net/phpwiki/index= .php/List ndsiwrapper -l looks like this: Installed ndis drivers: 2802w driver present, hardware present=B7 But iwconfig does not find a wireless extension: lo no wireless extensions. eth0 no wireless extensions. (eth0 is the not-wireless network interface). in /var/log/messages I see the pci.agent writing: "no modules for PCI slo= t 000:02:00.0"=B7 whenever I insert the card in the slot. lsmod looks like this: Module Size Used by ndiswrapper 114836 0=B7 ds 14276 4=B7 8139cp 16128 0=B7 snd_via82xx 23876 0=B7 snd_ac97_codec 66436 1 snd_via82xx snd_mpu401_uart 6144 1 snd_via82xx snd_rawmidi 20644 1 snd_mpu401_uart 8139too 20800 0=B7 yenta_socket 18560 1=B7 pcmcia_core 57220 2 ds,yenta_socket The wg511 pcmcia card has two LEDs, none is blinking, both are dark. Any ideas? TIA Joerg |

I have a netgear wg511 and it works nice with this driver. AFAIK there are 2 wg511 versions. Only one has a prism54 chip, and I don't know which chip the other one uses. Perhaps it's atheros, a driver can be found at madwifi.sf.net. Stefan |

My card is from china and does not work with the prism54 driver. Joerg > AFAIK there are 2 wg511 versions. Only one has a prism54 chip, and I do= n't=20 > know which chip the other one uses. After I did this now too and it also resulted in wlan0 showing up. *** Thanks *** could anybody tell me, if when ndiswrapper -i <inf file> has to be redone?=20 > configuring the interface and bringing it up, all was well (don't forget > to add the interface to your firewall, also). HTH. I have now the card's led blinking, an the wlan0 interface up. where do I have to configure WEP: in /etc/network/interfaces (debian) or in /etc/ndiswrapper/2802/1260:3890.conf ? Where do I put the essid and the key? Thanks again Joerg > --=20 > engage <en...@n0...> >=20 >=20 |
