I update to Wireless-tools using Wireless Extension v16 (a Mandrake rpm). I didn't get the warning anymore and iwconfig seems to report me "better" values for "Signal level" (210/254 and not -35 dBm like before) and for "Noise level" (0/154) but I still get "Link Quality" to 0 (0/100 exactly) and still the same kernel message "eth1: get statistics failed with c0010017" :( I try with 3 differents Windows drivers but no changes... Nobody with the same problem using Intel PRO/Wireless ? Has someone "Link Quality" working ? Thanks |

Fixed. Wait for cvs to catch up and update. The quality that is reported right now is not really a good indicator; it is just a heuristic, as there is no one-to-one correspondence between what wireless-tools in linux want and what NDIS driver reports. So don't rely on the quality much. Signal level should be correct, though. Noise is not computed at all. Other numbers are vague indicators. -- Giri |

Okay, few updates (regarding the Centrino problems thread): o I went back and tried again with 2.6.0-test11 and the latest CVS. The results are identical (i.e. sending still crashes the wireless interface) o It seems though that the problem has something to do with my router. I have a 2Wire router right now. I tried with a Belkin router from a friend, and sending works just fine. What I don't understand is how sending was working fine earlier (2.6.0-test11 and a pre 3.0 CVS). In any case, are there any suggestions on how to solve router specific issues? I get latest CVS. Now iwlist give me my AP :) But I get this warning : "Warning : Driver for device eth1 has been compiled with version 16 of Wireless Extension, while this program is using version 15. Some things may be broken...". I'll find a rpm with Wireless-tools compiled with Wireless Extension v16 latter. When I look into kernel logs, I still get "eth1: get statistics failed with c0010017" :( Iwlist reports me a Signal level of -35 dBm and a Noise level of -256 dBm. Ifconfig reports a Signal level of -53 dBm and a Noise level of -256 dBm. Could this be correct ? Try with an other Windows driver but get the same :( Should Link Quality reports something ? Mine is always at 0/0 :( I like the Gnome Wireless Link Monitor ;) Thanks for your work Cyril Giridhar Pemmasani wrote: >I updated new code. You should get statistics again. Hi All, I'm having problems with a BCM94306, which is actually builtin to a Dell Inspiron 5150. lspci gives :- 02:02.0 Network controller: Broadcom Corporation BCM94306 802.11g (rev 02) I can build ndiswrapper and install thus :- cd /home/plord/src/ndiswrapper/ndiswrapper insmod driver/ndiswrapper.ko utils/loaddriver 14e4 4320 bcmwl5.sys bcmwl5.inf iwconfig eth1 key 12121212121212121212121212 open iwconfig eth1 mode Managed iwconfig eth1 essid "tonys net" ifconfig eth1 up ifconfig eth1 192.168.2.30 iwlist eth1 scan find the network okay. So lots is working :-) However, nether simple pings to my router works, nor can obtain an IP address from dhcp (pump, dhclient, dhcpcd). This is with 2.6.0 kernel, gentoo distribution, 3G HT pentium 4 and ndiswrapper 0.3. If you try to connect to for example 192.168.0.2 the packet should go direc= tly to that host, so the kernel sends an arp request "who has 192.168.0.2" to mac ff:ff:ff:f= f:ff:ff. the host with that address will then answer. then the packet goes to that host. did you see anything in tcpdump? look for arp. if possible use another pc o= n the wlan and on the wired lan. hope that helps Timo =2D----BEGIN PGP SIGNATURE----- Version: GnuPG v1.2.3 (GNU/Linux) iQEVAwUBP+mDxkn74FOC+06tAQIGHQf+KPypl4/9v9Z2AbxBhdo1wWOVVt1JAZ9t n9BUL2Gz3JGOrY82OU32iiTuQ7jvisdcKXTqdo/epNkNQFup1i/OCcX7xSX3btJG WXYfMLfBo3bky/b/F7s4CaaZbtPbgt3Za7x408HL0dKnSw+9Nf0BjR2hgRK8Fjir E6YmyOsNEZNYOIGeIFRF0GJcpSMvGFmzDHpWnnRUKoUad0TaI+QspmqNlxrxiBhq uAMjAdNeFdItGQ7Yd9VMCBOVVpD2pZTTs1S/bAZsFOiDeRM6vRTfYqU9lvGn6alF zj4IkqP4AokZ+xSGUd1bgc8pUFRx9dJek3m58HSj6JCv+96UxAKBkg=3D=3D =3D2hfA =2D----END PGP SIGNATURE----- |

I updated new code. You should get statistics again. Wait till cvs catches up. It also suggests that your driver doesn't support certain functionality. You may want to try another driver? -- Giri |

Yes, there's a firewall in the router, but that doesnt have anything to d= o with this problem because the same happends within the local network. I cant ping, but when the wlan worked at the other place, ping didnt work then either, and i have read more ppl having problem with ping and wlan. Although ssh says no route when i try to connect to my server which is within the local network. tcpdump gives me nothing when Im trying to ssh to the server. --Patrik ----- Original Message -----=20 From: "Timo Weing=E4rtner" <timo@...> To: "Patrik" <paake@...> Sent: Tuesday, December 23, 2003 9:08 PM Subject: Re: [Ndiswrapper-general] No route!? > -----BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE----- > Hash: SHA1 > > > > 192.168.0.0 and after a few seconds my default gw shows up. > > with route -n there should not be any delay. the delay is because of a = dns lookup for the gw. > > > Any attempt to connect somewhere gives me "no route ... I got the wlan to work at one place where the access pointer where integrated into the router. Just route add default gw 192.168.0.1 and some iwconfig and it woked.. But home at my place it doesnt. The differense is that I have an access pointe connected to a router (that is an external access point). route add default gw 192.168.0.1 works but when i write route it first gives me 192.168.0.0 and after a few seconds my default gw shows up. Any attempt to connect somewhere gives me "no route ... ". Any special configurations for external AP:s? Regards, -Patrik |

Hi, I had written to the group earlier, I was having troubles even compiling the NDISWrapper modules. Thanks to your inputs I realised I needed to get the kernel source, etc. I have not been able to compile both the modules properly My problems start after that. According to the readme, I need to find the vendor and device number. I have to use lspci for that? (I have a pcmcia card by the way, am I not suppose to so something else here?) Anyways did lspci and got my cardbus vendor listed and got that vendor number and device number. Vendor 1217 Device 6972 (have attached lspci output and lspci -n output, I used the cardbus) Obviously, (i think), since I was using the card bus numbers, I got an error saying "card not found". So how do I look for my pcmcia card the way the README author used lspci to find his pci card? Thanks a lot Regards Jasmeet |

No. Having found a working configuration, I'm not inclined to mess with it. I wanted ACPI enabled anyway (which is why I discovered it fixed the problem with ndiswrapper).
