I am trying to calculate the total column mean of a variable from the model results (ccsm). The variable has 3 dimensions, 26 levels (Hybrid) and lat,lon on a 48x96 grid. I used the syntax "ncwa -a lev -v var1,var2 in.nc out.nc" to calulate the total column mean of the two variables var1 and var2. But the results were different (lower in specific) compared to a vertical mean calculated with another tool (ncl). Is it possible to know how using ncwa the vertical mean is calculated? like an equation or so?
In order to solve this, would it be possible for you to make available to us:
1) the netCDF file or files you used
2) the NCL script used
Yes, is it possible to mail the data?
Yes, please contact firstname.lastname@example.org offline and arrange to send everything to him.
Followups should be posted here once we see if we can replicate the problem.
