seems that the only link for debian is ncid_1.6-1_amd64.deb, which is not compatible for my old debian. Please advise!

You can download the ncid-1.6-src.tar.gz source package from Sourceforge and compile it.

Refer to the INSTALL-Ubuntu section of the Users Manual.
