If the modem gives distinctive ring, as "RING A", "RING B", etc. the A or B is appended to the modem's serial line ID, e.g. POTSA or POTSB.
The hangup code is checking to make sure the caller ID lineid is the same as the one the modem is attached to, so this mismatch results in no hangup being done.

This affects version 1.8 and later; version 1.7 and earlier had the modem try to hang up on calls for any line ID.
