I have several Win 2k3 servers that recieve Event ID 5000 exceptions.  NC_net will not run on them.  Any Ideas.  I have found some reference to .Net 2.0 handling programs exceptions differently then .Net 1.x

can you please give me more information on this issue, preferably the copy of the Event from Event Log.(use the icon when viewing the event properties)

When does the event occur? What is the Source of the event.  The only cases I had where NC_NEt did not start (THe service would fail to run) is in the case of the application event log being Full.  thus if posible try to empty the event log, or make sure it is set to overwrite old events.

It occurs when I try to start the NC_NET service.
the log is set to overwrite as needed.

      sorry for the delay,

I have looked into this issue and have never experienced it personally, Nor have any users reported a simmilar issue.  (there has been aver 300 downloads of NC_NEt since it has been upgraded to Dot Net 2.0)  Also I have worked on a custom version of NC_NEt for a client this past summer.  they also have been extensivly testing it and are about to roll it out on 2000-3000 servers without any reported issues.

THus I think the problem may be on that particular server/install.  Not knowing the extent of your installation I can assume:
      A) you ran a default install and NC_NEt is running under the System Account.  I have had minor issues with scope reported to me when it is not guven proper permissions but no Major crashes as you have reported. B) you experienced no installation issues with NC_NEt. Only issue is with starting, and you have also tried to uninstall and reinstall.  C)Dot NEt already installed on the system and there have been no other Dot Net issues on the server.

THus Due to the lack of REported issues with NC_NEt I would suspect that the issue is localized to just that server.  It may be something corrupt inside the DOt NEt Framework or something else running on the Host THat is conflicting with NC_NEt. Nc_NEt runs inside the Dot Net Framework CLR (virtual Machine) thus other Dot Net Framework Applications or other Software on the Server May be interfering with The CLR when it goes to Start NC_NEt.

IF you want to discuss and follow up with this more, please contact me via email- nc_net@montitech.com if you do not get a responce within 3 days then my GMAIL should work amontibello@gmail.com or visit montitech.com(Personal Web Page) for alternative contact information.

      Good Luck
      TOny
