When I try to install NC_Net to the Windows 2008 Server I am getting this message:

"The system administrator has set policies to prevent this installation"

The code in event log is 1625. I do not know that we have modified the GPO in this area, so it must be some funny default. I wonder if anyone has solved this?

PS. The documentation states that .NET version 1.1 is needed, but I noticed somewhere that v2 should work, what is the correct requirement?

      hi

NC_Net 3.x and 4.x Requires MS Dot Net Framework 2.0 and should function on any windows Host that meets this requiremnet.

NC_Net 2.x Requires MS Dot Net Framework 1.1

Haven´t testet NC_Net with W2k8, there you musst wait for tony answer/idee.

      greetings

I also have not tested yet on 2008,
I currently do not have Hardware that meets the min recomendation.

However based on your error message, the problem should not be NC_NEt but it appears that the Host has had security locked down by an aministrator.

The 3 recomended install requirements for NC_Net
      1) dot net framework
      2) Network Access (even on a stand alone computer without a network NC_NEt must be able to access localhost since network port is the only output interface for NC_NEt)
3)User Rights to install a new Windows Service (Administator rights usually always works. I only recomend Security experts in modifing the account that NC_Net runs under, since it greatly resticts the data NC_Net has rights to retrieve. Default install uses the System account)

the readme.html was the original help file for NC_NEt through v2.X but has NOT been updated.
Instead Documentaion.html is the ammended documentation to include the newer commands introduced in version 3, and 4.
thus the Dot net framework version requirement is not clearly stated in the docs.
(A new version of Readme.html is being released in the next release of NC_NET)

The Most up to date documentation of NC_NEt is Always in the command line help of check_nc_net, as well as, internal comments of the configuration files (.cfg) in the config folder of NC_NEt.

NC_NET 3.x, 4.x use DOt Net 2.0 or higher.  However the other tools included with NC_NEt do not run without Dot net 1.1 ( I am removing these tools from the NC_NEt since they can be downloaded seperatly and due to there Dot net version requirement.)

NC_NEt 1.x, and 2.x ARE NOT Recomended, however they require Dot Net 1.1 --Upgrades, Stability and accuracy of the data has only increased between versions, and users should always upgrade when time is availible

        Hello,

Thank you very much for the clarification of the .NET situation. I hope you have time to update the documentation.

I managed to install NC_NET to Windows Server 2008, but it was a little bit funny to do. I opened cmd-prompt "run as Administrator" and the installed it from command line. There was no problems. The service is now running and it is working fine.

        Regards,

        Kimmo

I am still working on a new install package for the Dot Net 3.5 compilation of NC_NEt.
This should rectify any issues with the older package not installing,
However, since the installer is not complete
E-mail me direct for a copy (if needed)
