The character set used in Berzerk are composed of graphics which are 8 bits wide by 9 bits high. However, characters which have descenders are plotted 4 pixels lower (with 3 extra blank rows of pixels above them) than ones which haven't got descenders.

The basic details look very similar to the character set used in Frenzy. The source code for the Frenzy character set can be seen here.

Note that lowercase characters occupy columns 2-7 whilst uppercase characters occupy columns 2-8.
