[Navit-users] German voice announcements

Hi all,
 
the German voice announcements in Navit obviously have been changed during one
of the later SVN checkins. The distance is now mentoined at the end of the
announcement. This is very confusing and should be chnaged again.
Also I encountered a problem with the numbering of roundabout exits. I am not
sure if this is due to faulty OSM data as the error does not appear on every
roundabout. Often I get "Verlassen Sie den Kreisverkehr an der ersten Ausfahrt"
even If the map/route shows something completely different. Sometimes it also
says "Verlassen Sie den Kreisverkehr an der nullten Ausfahrt".
 
I would have opened trac tickets for this, but OpenID login does not work
anymore...

[Navit-users] OpenID LOgin in Navit-Trac with Google Account

Hi,
when I try to login to Navit-Trac with OpenID from Google I get an error, that
OpenID 2.0 is not supported by Google anymore. Is there a chance to fix this?
 
The OpenID of the Navit-Wiki also does not work anymore (Error 404)

As it seems to be hard to get in contact with cp15 currently nobody can
disable the list.

We had the discussion 1,5yrs ago and switched to a webforum to keep
barriers low for non-techies. To get in contact with the core-team and
get support by the community please use the board.

+1, but it is up to the navit developers to do what is best for them.

Personally I find fora cumbersome and clunky and hardy ever use them.
Unfortunately there seem to many people who don't have the tools or
knowledge to handle email efficiently especially if they are using
webmail interfaces. For someone who only uses a webmail interface to
view email, you can see why they might think a forum is at least as
good.

I admit I have a preference for lists. But I will use whatever is
best. When I look at the web, the categories are unclear. That is,
would my question here be a route question (I want to update a route),
a GUI question (the update should be seen in the GUI), or some other
obvious category? The list removes having to know how to categorize
the question. OTOH, if no one looks at the list...

Does this re-reading only apply to non-bin files? I would have thought
that to be rather inefficient. I expected some data structure defining
the area each file covered, and then only reading the files when
entering that region.

Time to investigate the source.

We are updating map files on the fly from within NavIt.

I assume it re-reads these files every time the map needs updating, but I'm not certain this is true on all supported systems.
To force an update without the map being moved, we do 
	navit_draw(priv->navit);
With priv being our plugin's private data storing a pointer to the navit struct.

[Navit-users] Compiling navit with gpsd 3

I am trying to compile Navit with gpsd 3. I get the following error:

member named 'ss'

It seems gpsd has indeed changed the data being referenced here. I am
checking out Navit from svn. Is there a Navit that has been updated to
work with gpsd 3?

I've tried to join the Wiki sometime and sent numerous join requests, no
response other than it was being processed.
Anyhow, I'm running into some failures either with NMEA files or live
serial NMEA data. I've made a few fixes and improvements
to work around the problem, but though it would be better to discuss with
the developers.
How can I file JIRA or problem reports and/or file patches?

I am user of navit for some time and this weekend I wanted to make Navit
more integrated with other applications on webOS (never mind, core is the
same). When I was digging in files I found that there is possibility to add
option -s command.txt to navit executable to run one-time command, if I'm
right. This is even implemented in navit.sh script starting navit in webOS.

I tried few hours to deal with it, but without success.
At first, I'm not sure if it is intended use of this feature, because it is
nowhere documented.
Second question would be what is the expected syntax of these commands,
namely I'm interested in set_destination().
Last question is about debugging. I tried to set global log to level 3 so I
had large log, but I was unable to find any success or failure of this
command, only this one:

Is there anybody who would be able to assist me with this issue or who
would kick me in some direction how to continue?

I'm heading to use case, when one application would launch Navit with
destination set up to specific coordinates. WebOS has a command to launch

When i send a Zoom or everything command over DBUS then failures with

But indeed a cross post to the forum may get more attention.

About the GPS lag, my bet would be that you are probably using some
middleware GPS layer, that can introduce this kind of behavior. I have
seen this also on the raspberry pi for example. In short, if your
average load gets higher than what your device can handle some events
are just queued and it gets worse at every refresh cycle. So my advice
would be to make sure to access the gps device directly.

About the rendering : you probably want to disable the buildings ( they
are not that useful for routing anyway) and you probably will need to
edit the rendering rules for each zoom level, by disabling some roads
type ( e.g. you could remove the French "departementales" and only show
them in really close zoom levels ).

changes you can do to the layouts

Another option would be to run a tool like oprofile to gather metrics
about where the cpu time is spent, and from there we could drill into
some other tweaks.

My 2 cents about the Freerunner : a few years ago it was already really
slow, so don't expect too much out of it :)

Since many times now, my Neo freerunner is no more my daily phone. So,
I wish to do a total conversion and use it as a simple in-car GPS. To
do so, I installed Debian and the navit package + neo-cs skin.

But when I run it, navit is quite unresponsive. I think it take many
seconds to do a single map rendering. And when I ensure a new fresh
rendering is done (requesting the "menu" and returning to map), I can
observe that the new rendering use a really old GPS data: for example,
navit is still trying to render the map around my house, while I'm
traveling for more than 10 minutes far from this point.

Is there a way to request navit to render the most fresh GPS frame and
drop any older data?
This will provide a discontinuated display, but seems more usable than
information like "you were there 30 minutes ago".

is a flag for the booksmarks. But I'm not sure if this is already

In Navit, if I go to Bookmarks and a particular bookmark, I get the 
option to "View on map". This works as expected and takes me to the 
right section of the map - but it doesn't place any flag, marker or pin 
on the map to where the actual bookmark was made. Sometime I bookmark 
individual buildings or features - and displaying an entire area means I 
have to use some other reference source to find out exactly where does 
the bookmark point to.

Is this a problem just with my Navit installation, or is that how things 
should work? My version is a bit old now (0.5.0) - so maybe this has 
been fixed later? Could anyone suggest if you know what's going on - or 
at least try it on your install and let me know if it works the same please?
