Hi everyone, I am having problem with installing .bz2 file (NASM source) from ftp://ftp.kernel.org/pub/software/devel/nasm/source/nasm-0.98.39.tar.bz2 , however, during installation with (MINGW32) MSys, I had this error configure: error: NASM requires ISO C99 (specifically, "snprintf") after I typed the following, ./configure --prefix=/usr according to http://arrozcru.no-ip.org/ffmpeg_wiki/tiki-index.php?page=NASM , these are what I have to type ./configure --prefix=/usr make mkdir -p /usr/man/man1 make install Thank you for your help. I see absolutely *no* difference between binaries with or without the "BITS 32". What strange behavior of the Nasm compiler are you referring to? Unless you *do* see a difference in binaries, the strangeness originates elsewhere. What's your environment? Real boot? Dos? Emulator? Best, Frank |

hi i just came across some very strange behaviour of the nasm compiler take a look at this piece of code: BITS 16 ;some 16-Bit code cli lgdt [gdt_desc] mov eax, cr0 ;Enable or eax, 1 ;protected mov cr0, eax ;mode jmp 20h:enter_32 ;where 20h is selector for this very segment BITS 32 enter_32: hlt if i execute this, the screen completely blanks upon the jump to enter_32 now if i leave out the line "BITS 32" (i.e. if i compile for 16 BITS), the screen stays as it is! is there a sensible explanation for this?? |

Stack looks like: ??? ; more parameters? param0 ; return address segment, for a "far" call return address offset caller's bp So [bp + 4] is correct. Best, Frank |

Is REX_REAL supposed to be set on this instruction? No, ins->rex better be zero, since there is absolutely nothing REX-worthy in this instruction. If there is anything REXy set, we need to figure out why and fix it. > Reporting the error is a good start! We really, *really*, could use a proper automatic test suite. -hpa |

Sorry for the delayed response... I wanted to take a look at it first (even though I don't know what I'm doing, sometimes I can spot something - "code is code" - not this time...) We're aware that 0.99.xx has some "issues", still. I was a bit "premature" in releasing it... but I wanted to get some feedback - Thanks for yours, Guillaume!!! Best, Frank |
