I am suddenly unable to import and save combined PDF files. This app has been working so great for me that I finally donated and now the import function doesn't work.

I had been using an older version (maybe 7.2?) and then updated to a 7.3 release & things worked fine for a bit. Then today, I couldn't combine PDF files.

I can import existing PDF files but when I try to save as a combined file, the app just closes and I have a 0 byte file that's not recognized by the PDF reader.

I tried updating to 7.4.0.0 and it still doesn't work. I uninstalled & re-installed and still nothing.

Is this a known issue and is there a timeline for a fix? This is a big reason I use this software, hoping you can help. Thanks in advance.

Can you follow these instructions to see if there are any error logs? You can also try checking the Windows Event Log (under Application) to see if there are any errors. Do you have any sample PDFs you can upload that can reproduce the issue?

Thanks for your response. I've tried this again today a couple times but
somehow it's not being captured in the error log. I turned on the debug
log but don't see a debug file being generated.

I'm attaching the error log through yesterday and the error events from the
      Windows Event Log.

Not sure what you mean by uploading a sample PDF. Here's my scenario in
      more detail.

      • I'm trying to combine a bunch of existing PDF files into one.
      • I import each into the app and once I have them all, I click "Save
        PDF."
      • I then see a progress bar as if it's working but the indicator doesn't
change & then the app just shuts itself down.

Is there some limit to the number of PDF files I can combine? These are
all tax docs, 1099s and such. I did one combined file that worked but it
was only about 10 pages. The one it crashes on is around 40 pages. Could
      that be the issue?

      Thanks for your help!

Quick update: I was able to create 2 pdfs, one with about 30 pages and one
with another 10 pages. That worked, and then I was able to import both of
those and successfully save as a combined PDF.

Still curious why it crashes but maybe it has to do with number of pages or
        file size.

I sent my last reply before I saw yours. Hadn't thought to turn off OCR
but will consider that going forward.

          For now, think I'm set.

          Thanks again.

In terms of sample PDF, I mean it might be something to do with the specific PDFs you're using. I can import and save 100s of pages without any problem, so if there are some PDFs that cause the issue you can upload (and don't have personal info in them), I can try and reproduce the issue myself.

Also, do you have OCR enabled? If so, does it make a difference if you turn it off?
