Stumped with HP Driver-NAPS2 incompatibility

I've been stumped now for several months, and not been able to run NAPS2. Several other apps seem to scan OK, the last one this morning HP Scan and Capture. I have a screen shot of the error. The error window message reads: "HP Scanning - The HP imaging device may be incorrectly installed. Try the following steps. ...". Needless to say I 've tried all it suggests for months. Only NASP2 is affected, but three other scan apps work correctly. I run Windows 10, 64 bit; NASP2 is 5.8.2.37233

Assuming you're using the TWAIN driver, under Advanced in your profile settings, try different TWAIN implementation options.

Thanks for the suggestion. I just tried all other implementation options; the type of error changes, or there is no action at all.

Have you tried using WIA instead of TWAIN?

If I try to set up a profile HP-WIA my driver doesn't show up in the window Profile Settings > Choose device.

One very "blondish" thing to try: When launching NAPS2, select "Run as Admin". Of course it's not the real solution, but might be worth trying.
