I'm having a weird issue with page size on generated PDFs. I think it is happening on pages I manually rotated (using FastStone Image Viewer) to remove scan skew.

The document is about 130 pages.

The EXIF properties for page 3 are:
    2479 x 3212 (7.96 MP) 24 bit
    size 368KB
    print size: 8.25 x 10.71 inches DPI 300x300

The EXIF properties for page 4 (which I think I edited with FastStone) are:
    2387 x 3093 (7.38MP) 24 bit
    size 1.97MB
    print size: 7.96 x 10.31 inches DPI 300x300

In the generated PDF (viewing in Acrobat) I get:

    Page 3: Page Size: 8.25 x 10.71 inches
    Page 4: Page Size: 24.86 x 32.31 inches

So when viewing in Acrobat, page 1, 2, 3 start off full screen but as soon as you reach page 4, all the other pages shink to the center of the page.

    Any suggestions?

Also, I'm seeing the issue in 4.7.0 and 4.7.2

If I understand you correctly, you're:

    1. Scanning with NAPS2
    2. Saving as JPEG
    3. Editing with FastStone
    4. Importing back into NAPS2
    5. Saving as PDF

    Is that right?

Correct. I found that some of the scanned pages I wasn't happy with (ADF feeder wasn't feeding quite straight, so I had to correct rotation by hand.

I'm not sure what's causing that, I tried those same steps and couldn't reproduce the issue. A couple things you could try:

    1. Select the problematic page in FastStone, then go to Edit -> Resize -> Print Size and save with the parameters you want. Then re-import into NAPS2.
    2. For future scans, you could use NAPS2's Custom Rotation (under the Rotate menu) without having to edit them externally.

The image size in Faststone is correct. 7.96 x 10.31 inches

I did a resize forcing the same values. Problem persists,

As a test I imported just the one page (JPG) and NAPS2 saves it into a one page PDF as 24.86 x 32.31 inches.

I just attached the image. I'm not sure if this modifies it, if it does I can e-mail you the original.

It looks like the DPI was somehow set as 96 instead of 300, despite FastStone saying it was at 300. In FastStone you can try Edit -> Set DPI and set it to 300.

hmmn. it's set to 300x300 dpi in the edit/set-dpi option. but sure enough other tools see it as 96. force saving as 300x300 doesn't change anything. looks like a bug in faststone.

    Ben.

There is definitely a problem here.

I just scanned another document and had to correct about 20 misscanned pages.
The originals were all scanned at 300dpi 8.5x11"

This time I used the custom rotation built into NAPS2, rotating by 0.3 to 1.0 degrees.

All the pages I rotated have a size of 23x35" in the generated PDF. The ones i didn't touch are 8.25x10.75.

I initially generated a pdf (prior to rotating) and all the pages were correct. So replacing some pages causes a problem.

Also, unlike before (where I used faststone and there was the weird 96/300 dpi inconsistency) this time all the rotated images still show 300dpi, same as the ones not edited.

Please try the attached test version and see if it fixes the issue.

What do I need to do? Can I just re-import the existing jpegs, or do I need to (somehow first) manually fix the ones that are having issues?

You can import the "good", unrotated PDF (or jpegs), then use NAPS2's rotation and see if the result is correct.

The problem was that NAPS2's custom rotation wasn't maintaining the correct DPI.

interesting as the metadata claimed they were all still 300dpi

i overwrote the originals, I'll have to go back to a backup and redo the rotation. i'll try just one page first :)

Here's a test installer since you're having issues with the zip.

I've published 5.0b2 with the fix, you can download it from the main NAPS2 download page.

      Similar issue still with 5.0.2.23866

Pages I rotated in NAPS2 have size of 12.75x16.75 996 (dpi) in generated PDF. Untouched pages are 8.5x11 (166dpi) in outputted PDF.

Also, I have OCR enabled when generating the PDF.

These original (166dpi pages) came from me extracting jpegs from an existing PDF (using PDFill PDF Tools Free), so I could use NAPS2 to straighten and OCR.

Attached is images pre and post NAPS2 rotation.

What are the exact steps you used to get from pre.jpeg to post.jpeg? I tried reproducing it with the version and files you provided but it works fine for me.

      1. Unzip above archive.
      2. [windows desktop] right click on image-pre.jpg, properties, details -> 144dpi
      3. open NAPS (version 5.0.2.23866)
      4. select import
      5. browse to image-pre
      6. double click image to open viewer
      7. select rotate, custom rotation
      8. specify 0.1 degrees
      9. close viewer window
      10. save image as new.jpg (JPEG quality is set to 100)
      11. [windows desktop] right click on new.jpg, properties, details -> 96dpi

So if you have 4 images, and rotate 1, the resulting PDF has the wrong dpi for that image.

Thanks. I'm pretty sure the current issue is actually with the installer (it's not upgrading properly so you're not getting the fix). Until I resolve that issue you can either use the latest portable or uninstall and reinstall NAPS2. This should be fixed in 5.0b3.
