Hi, because a new developer has trashed Anyscan (now also renamed) which is based on NAPS2, I have lost all the configuration, last massive file condition and name and dozens of scan profiles I honed to pickup details on extremely faded documents. I would like to get the old configuration, profile and backup files and copy them into NAPS2 on a new system. Where would they be stored, and what names would I copy across?

    Thank you.

    Horror story:

A good reason for NAPS2 in Microsoft Store:

Well, I was stuck in s mode on a tablet, and got this NAPS2 clone out of Microsoft store. It was a bit buggy, and didn't do everything it said, but it reminded me of my old scansoft package, and I was happy to use it. I had to do scanning of thousands of documents for my serious case. I eventually just scan things to large file to split up latter into individual files. I'm often sick, come back months later, do an update that's there to maybe iron out some issues which are slowing it down, and it's replaced by some hard to use different software with limited functionality. It's lost the last large file I was working through, so now I have lost my place, amd it's going take a number of hours after this time to figure out. I try to figure it out. If I try to select the pages to export it's even worse with the faulty tablet screen and things slide around and muck up the order and I think loose things. I'm sick again, come back. Update, why not, the new owners might have put things right, but no, instead I probably can do less unless I pay a monthly fee or sizable amount per month, for $2 software, and even if I do, it's no where as good as NAPS2, but just a glorified Microsoft scan like experience with NAPS2 viewer still there. I am seriously behind, and this has taken another 10-20 hours off trying to find a laptop, test the useless store pdf software, go through and look for alt pdf software and antivirus stuff for the non s mode laptop.

NAPS2 stores configuration in %APPDATA%\NAPS2. For example, if your Windows username is Way, it would be C:\Users\Way\AppData\Roaming\NAPS2.

Assuming they changed it, Anyscan probably stored data in something like %APPDATA%\Anyscan.

The important files to copy would be profiles.xml and config.xml.

Thank you, that sounds very simple. That will have backup of lost open file and sessions being worked on? Even if I just get the name of the files, that is going to help. Thank you again.

You can also try copying the recovery folder (inside that same folder) for that, but it's fairly limited and may or may not have what you want.

      Thank you. better than nothing.

I should have had the files sets replicated on the new machine, snr hopefully restarted how I left off and into it by now, but windows update is taking so many hours taking 10x too long,. It is unreal the world we live in. Even the form here is jumping all ove the place and zooming when clicked, scrolling around and inserting in different position then I clicked to edit, on Chrome Android. Only Facebook and googie groups in desktop mode do this sort of thing.

Anyway, I often contribute bug reports and technical feature and user work follow suggestions to companies like Google Android and old Opera, with a lut adopted (but Google often doesn't seem to follow the suggestions as described, and produce some strange things. I do mot have much scanning left, buy would lile to do the same thing here. One suggestion would be a way to easily divide up and group pages then cone back and save each group as a seperate file. Stacks would allow that on scansoft, but you could have a save all unsaved stacks/groups as, to highlight which groups ane have it give a dave popup for each as you save each (the next window pops up). But stacks make it hard to see into, and yiu have to see the pages enlarged smd scroll around to determine what to name each. So, a popup view of the group asking for file and name would be a lot simpler and faster. i used to have to go back and forwards between the pages and dialogue trying to remember the date and subject of the document to name it. I did over 60k of scans on paper port years ago, but the Anyscan version of Naps2 often make me feel like trearing my hair out on thousands of pages. old code likely, but there were ways of mote simply doing it. Most of my profiles were to recover faded documents, like receipts. I can get most near or blank looking receipts up through a series of steps, which an auto recovery receipt configuration could do a far better job at, presenting a clean undarkened version of the reciept with original saved with it to verify legally. The text data put in searchable database. So, you can put in a store name and get all receipts sorted by time and date, and even by putting location as well. It then could use that tagged information to batch name the files, to describe them. The process could use a wizard to ask you verification of what each word it thinks is a store or location is, and date, for next time it sees it and its clear, but if not clear it asks yiu ans marks it as undetermined wlnd with any guess at its name (undetermined but possibly state). literally 100x+ the effort. You then can auto generate reports from like receipts etc. This can be done progressively adding feature to feature over upgrades. That is the sort of thing I would submit. Is there a suggestion feedback engine here?

Hi again Ben. After much trouble I got everything working, but how do yiu recover multiple windows left open (I just leave them open, the tablet would go for weeks and weeks before charging)?

I also don't know if it is the last session, as when I copied it across, windows re-dated the folder dates, not in order. I went back and found the newest configuration on the old tablet and used copy to make a most recent recovery. Is that right? I had to recover the files frkm yhe packages cache local cache. it would still be the latest?

The recovery images are not in date or numbers order? Is there windows tracking in recovery?

      Thanks again

The subfolders in the recovery folder each represent a session (some of them might be old/empty). Dating is done by the windows modified date so if that's changed then it'll be out of order. You can recover them by repeatedly opening NAPS2, saving what you need and deleting what you don't, and then when you re-open again it'll find the next folder it can recover from (if any).

Thanks. Thats wI found the latest date and copied the file to make it the latest. Why not a time stamp in the filename?
