I released the first pre version of myTemp 4.0 on Sunday. It still lacks some of the features, 3.10 has, but I would like to give an overview of what will be new, changed, improved. I started working on myTemp again, since I changed my Linux Kernel from 2.4.23 to 2.6.0 and obviously something changed in the serial port drivers, which prevented version 3.10 of myTemp to work in the emulator. current state of the prerelease ------------------------------- - graphical display of the temperature log This works in the prerelease. Scaling of the axes and a grid are still missing. - background logging Instead of having the Palm running throughout the logging, an alarm is set for every sample, then the Palm wakes up, does the measurement and goes to sleep again. (One cannot determine, if the Palm was running or sleeping, when the alarm occured, since PalmOS does not provide a way to do so. (Or I've been to stupid to find it.) This means you have to set the sleep-time in the PalmOS Preferences to get the handheld to sleep again.) The battery runtime of the palm should be greatly improved by this and is now mainly dependent of the measurement frequency. - improved timing and locking The low- and application level drivers for the 1-Wire bus have been cleaned up. One result of it is, that you can use your palm, while it is logging, since the temperature conversation doesn't lock up the device for such a long time, like version 3.10. (probably you will notice a short interruption every time the palm reads the temperature) - if the snd checkbox is marked, the palm will beep whenever a temperature conversation occurs - I wrote a small perl script (using the Palm:PDB perl-module), that can extract temperatures directly from the .pdb-file. No need to transfer it to the Memo application any more. this will be in the final release=20 --------------------------------- (this means it is missing in the prerelease) - support for mutliple sensors - names for sensors this allows you to name the different sensors to distinguish between them - live graphic update Redraw the temperature graph in the application after a measurement took place. - display of the actual temperature - support for big databases Version 4.0 will allow up to 7 million temperature values in one database, presumed one has 4GB of RAM inside the handheld. :-) - some statistic is made, like the number of failed measurements future releases --------------- the following features are planed to be implemented in the future, after version 4.0 has been released - user defined scaling of the graph - table view (to let you change between the view like in version 3.10 and the graphical view of version 4.0) - support to store databases NOTICE: Before installing the prerelease, you'll have to delete the old version of myTemp, since the database formats are not compatible and there's no conversion inside the application. Sourceforge provides the possibility to make donations to projects they host. So if you use and like myTemp, no one can stop you from making a donation on the myTemp project page. ;-) It supports me improving the myTemp project. Merry Christmas to all of you, Christof |

There was a bug in the schematics on the schemes page of the myTemp web-site, concerning the connection of the DS1820. I fixed the drawings and put them on the page. Hopefully this was the last bug for today. Regards, Christof |

After sending my first postings to the myTemp-announce mailing list, I became aware, that there was a typo in the list name. Since I don't want to be reminded of my errors every time I send a posting, I renamed it from mytemp-annonounce to mytemp-announce and subscribed all members of the first to the later. Since the intended use of the list means, that most of the subscribers will only receive eMails from this list, it is probably no problem for most of you. But for postings (if any) please use myt...@li... for the future. If you want to unsubscribe or change your settings, you can do so in the "lists"-section of the project's page under http://mytemp.sourceforge.net or via the email-based interface by sending a message to myt...@li... (Send a message with the word 'help' as subject or in the body to this address for information about how to use it.) Sorry for any inconveniences and confusion. Regards, Christof |
