click execute query,

type in " select now();" in the Query: textbox
click Execute

The resulting time is truncated and not expandable.

The result is expandable (if you go to the side of the cell, the
cursor with the double tight/left arrow appears), but I agree it
should be expanded automatically, expecially if there is
space!

I haven't found a nice way to do it, though. I will investigate
more.

Fixed. Columns are sized to fit the largest element.
