#6 Convert before transfer

As I generally have high-quality mp3's (256kbit/s) on
my computer, I would like to see a "convert(downsample)
mp3 before transfering to ipod"-feature.

I'm just a beginner java-programmer myself and wouldn't
know where to start. I have, however, googled a little
bit and found sites such as
http://tritonus.org/plugins.html which could help solve
the problem using java (which is essensial). It's
probably not a good solution to get LAME binaries and
use them as external programs, as that would make it
difficult to be multi-platform.
