This week I've freezed the development of the 0.x branch of MyNewsGroups. I've planned to release the 0.6.2 version with some bug fixes and a new theme, but don't expect too much improvements and new features from this branch.

Hi to all, due to some problems with testings and the demo site, my news account with news.cis.dfn.de has been terminated. I'm a bit tired of trying to find quality news server access accounts at free or 'public' servers.

So, The MyNewsGroups :) Team needs a quality news server account to perform the needed testing of the script, and to feed the demo site.

Requirements should be:

- Quite lot of groups. (With international hierarchies)
- Posting allowed, of course. (At demo site, only *.test will be opened)
- Binary groups allowed. (We're testing binary attachments.)... read more

An automatic article expiration system has been added. The articles of all the groups or only of some groups are automatically deleted. The theme system was revised and updated. Emergency installation was added if the installation script fails. Quite a lot of bugs were also fixed.

A Protect Email Security feature was added as option to the System administration, which will help users to fight SPAM. Changes to the System configuration are now automatically reflected in the application (no need to restart the session). Quite a lot of important bugs were also fixed.

The 0.5.1 release comes with a few improvements to the user interface and to the article browsing experience: The page you're browsing is remembered, the article you're reading is highlighted, and now you can mark as read a whole thread or all the articles in a group. everal users have warned the development team of MyNewsGroups about a hole in the 0.4 release: If register_globals and allow_url_fopen both are on, an outsider can use this to execute arbitrary PHP code on a webserver with MyNewsGroups :) installed !

As the MyNewsGroups :) page at SF.net warns, this script is currently under Beta status, so apparently may have several Bugs and Security holes as the one described.... read more

MyNewsGroups :) project is now under active development. Team members are periodically commiting the new changes to the repositiory and soon we'll have a new beta release with the last changes. Please be patient and stay tuned to MyNewsGroups :) !

The new MyNewsGroups :) has just been released. For all those who has 'suffered' with the previous alpha versions here comes the first beta, with the latest bugs fixed, minor changes and three major features added:

- Search Engine.
- Article Compression.
- Several News Servers.
