#7 Fix for gcc 3.x

This patch fixes the compile problems with gcc 3.x. I
wrote/tested it on a Gentoo 1.4rc ix86 system with gcc
3.2. It may or may not work with other versions of GCC.

I have NOT done any regression testing with gcc 2.9x,
because I don't have access to a gcc2 system. So, if
you apply this patch to a gcc2 system, I don't know if
it will work or not (it should, but you never know).
