Hi.
I am just in the process of checking out MUTE as an alternative to
bittorrent and I came across your section "Why I will never add end-to-end
encryption to MUTE".
Whilst I agree that in the MUTE topology, encryption as a secure medium
"seems" impossible, that is not the only reason people wish to use
encryption. As I'm from a BT background, the main reason I use encryption is
to hide the protocol to prevent bandwidth throttling by the ISP. Most P2P
users aren't too worried about people intercepting/reading the contents.
Currently, my ISP doesn't seem to notice MUTE transfers, but as your
software becomes more prevalent, this may change. I can foresee MUTE being
bigger than BT due to the anonymity it provides, but it may be wise to take
a broader view of encryption rather than just as a secure transfer
mechanism.
Regards
Shaun
