#22 Willing to do a Bittorrent type tracker?

After years of development and problems with searching,
Gnutella still has problems,. Throwing ultrapeers at
the problem and now QRP table incompatibility, it's
clear they are just developing themselves into a nightmare.

I am wondering if you are willing to interface to a
bittorrent *like" tracker idea?

The idea is to be like bittorrent, but much simpler,
the basic idea is that trackers know what all the files
are, and they all talk to each other on a low bandwidth
but regular basis so you can simple search and it will
find the proper tracker to send you to, or they all
have the same database. They are of course on a web
server. keep the interface to it simple and basic, this
is where gnutella is going wrong.

To be more clear, with gnutella you search and then
find *what* files are available, this is already
available on the trackers so you are almost done. Then
you broadcast that file hash "TTL 7" as a request and
nodes respond if they have the file. Simple, easy, low
bandwidth.

No big list of files need to be returned via the
network. Privacy is maintained because unlike
bittorrent no IPs are posted, but you could post known
network MUTE IPs on the tracker, I am not sure about
that or how well it would work.

Let people run these, and also make them the points of
finding seed nodes to get started on the network. Make
sure you use very little bandwidth and lock out any
abusers.

Make sure these will run on the free servers that throw
out a banner ad with the web page data, this is where
Gwebcache went wrong.

If interested, it wouldn't be hard to adopt the scripts
from Gwebcache to do this, just adding code to track
files, so if interested in help with this, post here
with your e-mail and I will respond.

Make sure you are doing a bittorrent swarming download
type of thing with this and this will be a very popular
program.

Swarming, better known as segmented downloading, is a low
priority feature. Also bit torrent style p2p is not meant for this
kind p2p system.

yes, just throw it away off hand because of course, only you
could think up new stuff, no one else has a good idea and
only you have a IQ of 200, you rule the world, etc....

Oh well...

now you know why these projects fork, you dont get any help
and generally have to do everything yourself.
